Eastern Kentucky coach Dan McHale started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Zach Charles, 6-6 So. DeAndre Dishman, 6-9 Jr. Nick Mayo, 5-11 So. Asante Gist, and 6-4 Fr. Dedric Boyd.  Rice coach Scott Pera countered with 6-6 So. Robert Martin, 6-5 Sr. Bishop Mency, 6-9 So. Austin Meyer, 6-2 So. Ako Adams, and 6-5 Jr. Connor Cashaw.

Dedric Boyd hit three free throws with five seconds left on the clock to give Eastern Kentucky a 73-72 lead and the Colonels made a stop on the defensive end to preserve the victory.  Rice took a 61-48 lead with 8:12 minutes left in the game but Eastern Kentucky rallied for the victory.  Eastern Kentucky shot 38.5% from the field including six of 27 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 17 of 19 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 Rice turnovers.  Rice shot 36.2% from the field including eight of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Owls connected on 22 of 32 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 25 points including nine of 10 free throws, pulled down 12 rebounds, and dished out three assists.  Dedric Boyd added 20 points including three three point baskets and pulled down six rebounds.  DeAndre Dishman recorded 11 points and seven rebounds.  Zach Charles pulled down eight rebounds.

Connor Cashaw led Rice with 18 points including two three point baskets and pulled down 11 rebounds.  Bishop Mency added 15 points including four three point baskets and six rebounds.  Robert Martin recorded 14 points and seven rebounds.  Ako Adams chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds, and six assists.
