Belmont coach Cameron Newbauer started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. Lauren Thompson, 5-11 Jr. Kylee Smith, 6-3 Jr. Sally McCabe, 5-5 So. Darby Maggard, and 5-11 So. Jenny Roy. Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 5-11 Sr. Shavontae Naylor, 5-10 Sr. Zee Willix, 6-3 Jr. Madison Wood, 5-5 Sr. Mariah Massengill, and 5-8 Sr. Alexus Cooper.
Belmont led 40 – 28 at halftime and survived a second half Eastern Kentucky University rally to earn a 73-67 victory. The score was tied three times and there were four lead changes in the game. Belmont 48.1% from the field including five of 18 from the three point line. They connected on 16 of 18 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 10 points off six Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 38.8% from the field including eight of 21 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 Belmont turnovers.
Kylee Smith led Belmont with 24 points including three three point baskets, nine rebounds, and three assists. Jenny Roy added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Lauren Thompson chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds. Sally McCabe recorded 11 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Darby Maggard added eight points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and 10 assists.
6-1 Sr. Jalen O’Bannon led Eastern Kentucky with 23 points, nine rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals. Alexus Cooper added 13 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and three assists. Mariah Massengill recorded 12 points on four three point baskets and six assists. Shavontae Naylor also scored 12 points.
