Eastern Illinois coach Debbie Black started the following lineup: 6-0 Fr. Jennifer Nehls, 5-10 Fr. Allison Van Dyke, 6-1 Sr. Erica Brown, 5-4 Jr. Grace Lennox, and 5-8 So. Carmen Tellez. Eastern Kentucky coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 6-1 Sr. Jalen O’Bannon, 5-9 Sr. Katie Pippen, 6-3 Jr. Madison Wood, 5-3 Jr. Marcella Rocha, and 5-8 Sr. Alexus Cooper.
Eastern Kentucky captured an exciting 88-85 overtime victory over Eastern Illinois in a game that was tied 14 times and had 14 lead changes. The game feature two noteworthy individual performances; Jalen O’Bannon (Eastern Kentucky) scored a personal high 34 points and set a school record of free throws made in a single game with 22. On the other side of the ledger Grace Lennox (Eastern Illinois) scored 35 points scoring from everywhere on the floor.
Eastern Kentucky University shot 46.3% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 30 of 35 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Eastern Illinois turnovers. Eastern Illinois University shot 45.8% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc. The Panthers connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.
Jalen O’Bannon led Eastern Kentucky with 34 points including 22 of 24 free throws, nine rebounds, and five assists. 5-11 So. Abby Wright added 13 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds. Madison Wood recorded 10 points and five rebounds. 5-5 Sr. Mariah Massengill chipped in with eight points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Grace Lennox led Eastern Illinois with 35 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. Erica Brown added 18 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Allison Van Dyke recorded 11 points including two three point baskets and nine rebounds. Jennifer Nehls chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.
