Western Carolina University coach Stephanie McCormick started the following lineup: 6-0 Fr. Tess Harper, 5-10 Jr. Julia Brown, 6-2 Jr. Sherae Bonner, 5-5 So. Angel Allen, and 5-9 Jr. JonTay Mitchem.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 6-0 Sr. Amadi Brooks, 5-11 Sr. Shavontae Naylor, 6-1 Sr. Jalen O’Bannon, 5-5 Sr. Mariah Massengill, and 5-8 Sr. Alexus Cooper.

Western Carolina rallied from a 40-29 deficit at halftime to defeat Eastern Kentucky by a score of 72-61.  It was a tale of two halves as Western Carolina outscored Eastern Kentucky 43-21 after the first half intermission.  Western Carolina quickly erased Eastern Kentucky’s advantage at halftime by outscoring the Colonels 23-8 in the third quarter.  Eastern Kentucky shot a dismal 27.3% (3-11) from the free throw line, outrebounded 44-30) and gave up 23 points off 15 turnovers.

Western Carolina University shot 44.15 from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  They connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 43.5% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on three of 11 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored five points off 18 Western Carolina turnovers.

Sherae Bonner led Western Carolina with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  5-8 So. Raziyah Farrington also scored 15 points including three three point baskets.  JonTay Mitchem added 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Angel Allen recorded 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.5-5 Jr. Kyia Hough chipped in with nine points.

Jalen O’Bannon led Eastern Kentucky University with 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four blocked shots.  Shavontae Naylor added 10 points and seven rebounds.  Alexus Cooper recorded eight points, four assist, and three steals.
