Morehead state coach Sean Woods started the following lineup: 6-6 Jr. DeJuan Marrero, 6-3 Sr. Brent Arrington, 6-8 Sr. Anthony Elechi, 5-11 Fr. Malik Maitland, and 6-2 Jr. Xavier Moon. Eastern Kentucky coach Dan McHale countered with 6-7 Sr. Jarelle Reischel, 6-7 Sr. Ja’Mill Powell, 6-9 Fr. Nick Mayo, 6-1 So. Paul Jackson, and 6-2 Jr. Isaac McGlone.
Morehead State eked out a 70-67 victory over Eastern Kentucky. The score was tied five times and there were four lead changes in the game. Morehead State shot 36.4% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line. They connected on 25 of 36 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 14 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 45.5% from the field including only one of 17 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 16 of 21 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 15 Morehead State turnovers.
Xavier Moon led Morehead State with 14 points. Anthony Elechi added 12 points and eight rebounds. DeJuan Marrero recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. 6-6 Sr. Lyonell Gaines chipped in with 10 points. Brent Arrington added nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 19 points including seven of seven free throws, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Jarelle Reischel added 18 points and eight rebounds. 6-5 Jr. Javontae Hawkins recorded nine points. Ja’Mill Powell chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
