Florida Atlantic University coach Michael Curry started the following lineup: 6-9 So. CJ Turman, 6-4 Sr. Jackson Trapp, 7-0 Fr. Ronald Delph, 6-2 Jr. Adonis Filer, and 6-2 Fr. Nick Rutherford. Eastern Kentucky University coach Dan McHale countered with 6-7 Sr. Jarelle Reischel, 6-5 Jr. Javontae Hawkins, 6-9 Fr. Nick Mayo, 6-1 So. Paul Jackson, and 6-2 Jr. Isaac McGlone.
Eastern Kentucky ratcheted up their defense in the second half to defeat Florida Atlantic 80-73 in a hotly contested game tonight. Florida Atlantic led by six in the first half but Eastern Kentucky led 37-36 at halftime. Eastern Kentucky took a 13 point lead in the second half but Florida Atlantic fought back to close the margin. There were nine lead changes in this game.
Eastern Kentucky shot 42.9% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 27 of 33 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 15 Florida Atlantic turnovers. Florida Atlantic shot 41.5% from the field including five of 18 from beyond the arc. The Owls connected on 14 of 16 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.
Jarelle Reischel led Eastern Kentucky with 19 points including nine of nine free throws, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out five assists, blocked two shots, and recorded five steals. Nick Mayo added 18 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Javontae Hawkins recorded 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.
Adonis Filer led Florida Atlantic with 16 points and nine rebounds. Donald Delph added 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots. Jackson Trapp also scored 11 points including three three point baskets. 6-7 Fr. Jeantal Cylla chipped in with 10 points.
