Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk started the following lineup: 6-3 So. Darius Williams, 6-0 Sr. Troy Black, 6-2 Sr. Jordan Hurst, 6-0 Sr. Donnie Lewis, and 6-0 Fr. Taveion Hollingsworth. Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 Jr. Tanner Johnson, 6-3 Jr. Reese Ryan, 6-7 Sr. Robert Dence, 5-10 Jr. Michael Talbott, and 6-2 Jr. Jarod Griffin.
Paul Laurence Dunbar shot a sizzling 72.2% from the field in the first half to take a 33-31 lead at the intermission but Lexington Catholic rallied to earn a 58-55 victory. Lexington Catholic outscored Dunbar 19-7 in the third quarter to regain the advantage and held on down the stretch for the victory. The score was tied five times and there were six lead changes in this game.
Lexington Catholic shot 54.15 from the field including six of 10 from the three point line. The Knights connected on 12 of 15 from the free throw line, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers. Dunbar shot 52.6% from the field including four of eight from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 13 points off nine Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Tanner Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 28 points including six three point baskets and three assists. Jarod Griffin added 10 points. Reese Ryan recorded eight points, four rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Robert Dence chipped in with six points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Taveion Hollingsworth led Dunbar with 19 points. Troy Black added 13 points and Donnie Lewis chipped in with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
