Berea coach Cameron Jackson started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Cameron Coyle, 6-0 So. Shyiem Alexander, 6-3 Sr. Trey Terrill, 5-11 Jr. Dustin Kates, and 5-11 Jr. Jarrel Tevis. Sayre coach Rob Goodman countered with 6-4 Sr. Henry Wolf, 6-3 Sr. Martin Durmov, 6-6 Jr. Quinn Pergande, 6-0 So. Alexander Webb, and 6-2 Sr. Justin Sanders.
Sayre raced out to a 26-6 first quarter lead on their way to a 64-32 victory over Berea tonight. Sayre held an 18-3 advantage in second effort points. Sayre shot 48.8% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line. The Spartans connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 15 Berea turnovers. Berea shot 35% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc. The Pirates connected on one of six free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Sayre turnovers.
Quinn Pergande led Sayre with 21 points including 13 of 16 free throws and 14 rebounds. Justin Sanders added 18 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Martin Durmov recorded six points, four assists, and three steals.
5-9 Jr. Austin Warford led Berea with nine points including two three point baskets. Dustin Kates added eight points and 5-11 So. Bradley Atkins chipped in with seven points.
