Tuesday February 21st

 

Lafayette (15-13)  vs.  Paul L. Dunbar (23-6) (Girls)

 

Lafayette coach Allison Denton started the following lineup: 6-0 So. Sarah Cooley, 5-11 Fr. Dee Givens, 6-3 Fr. Ashanti Thomas, 5-7 Sr. Emily Justice, and 5-6 So. Ken’yale Demus.  Paul L. Dunbar coach Sarah Van Horn countered with 5-10 Jr. Lakeena Parks, 5-10 Sr. Morgan McEldowney, 6-2 So. Brooke Todd, 5-2 Jr. Jordin Fender, and 5-2 Jr. Kierra Muhammad.

 

Lafayette led 28-21 early in the third quarter but Dunbar rallied for a 56-49 victory.  There were six lead changes and five ties in this game.  Dunbar shot 37.5% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 23 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 33.3% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Generals connected on 14 of 17 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 10 Dunbar turnovers.

 

Kierra Muhammad led Dunbar with 17 points including seven of 11 free throws, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Jordin Fender added 12 points and six steals.  Brooke Todd chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots.  5-6 Jr. Lexus Edwards recorded eight points including two three point baskets on three of three from the field.

 

Ashanti Thomas led Lafayette with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Dee Givens added eight points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Emily Justice and 5-4 Sr. Sarah Martin each recorded eight points with two three point baskets.  Sarah Cooley pulled down nine rebounds.

Tates Creek (12-15)  vs.  Lafayette (12-17) (Boys)

 

Tates Creek coach Wayne Breeden started the following lineup: 6-4 Jr. Braxton McFarland, 6-0 Sr. Dai Quan Epps, 6-4 Fr. Jordan Fucci, 5-9 Sr. Brian Tilford, and 6-2 Sr. Darius Gibson.  Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III countered with 6-8 Jr. Nick Trisko, 6-7 Jr. Ethan Burlingham, 6-8 So. Jackson Davis, 6-0 So. Lance Blakley, and 6-3 Jr. Tranard Chester.

 

Lafayette defeated a cold shooting (22.2% from the field) Tates Creek team by a score of 51-37.  Lafayette led 39-37 early in the final quarter and Tates Creek had two possessions to go for the tie or lead but Lafayette finished the game on a 12-0 run to ensure the victory.  Lafayette shot 45% from the field including two of seven from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 13 of 26 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 22.2% from the field including two of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on 11 of 20 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 16 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Nick Trisko added nine points and nine rebounds.  Lance Blakley recorded eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

 

Jordan Fucci led Tates Creek with 10 points and nine rebounds.  Darius Gibson recorded 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
