Clark County (10-3) vs. Henry Clay (13-6) January 25, 2000
Clark County coach Guy Strong started the following lineup for tonight's game: 6-2 Sr. Robbie Baldwin, 6-2 Sr. Jason Mason, 6-4 Jr. Chris Frazier, 6-0 Sr. Brandon Clay, and 5-11 Sr. Jason Neely. Henry Clay coach Kirk Chiles countered with 6-0 Sr. Banks Douglass, 6-0 Sr. J.C. Mitchell, 6-2 Jr. Rod Dunham, 6-2 Sr. Daryl Carden, and 5-10 Sr. Rod Cotton.
Henry Clay pulled off an upset with a 61-51 overtime win over the Clark County Cardinals. Henry Clay led 23-19 at halftime but Brandon Clay scored 9 points in the third quarter to pull Clark County even 37-37 at the end of the quarter. Henry Clay led throughout the fourth quarter, but Jason Neely hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game 47-47 and force a four minute overtime. Daryl Carden scored 6 points in overtime to lead Henry Clay to a 61-51 victory. Carden and Dunham led the victors with 14 each and 6-1 Sr. Shane Boyd came off the bench to add 9 points. Clark County was led by Chris Frazier with 13 and Jason Mason with 10.
This game was not an artistic masterpiece but it was another big win
for Henry clay, who finished 11-17 last year. Kirk Chiles has a reputation
for rebuilding programs and he appears to have his alma mater heading in
the right direction. He has accomplished this with his leading scorer and
rebounder from last year's squad Shane Boyd just getting back in
basketball shape after recovering from a football injury.
