Boyd County (16-5) vs. Scott County (20-4) February 18, 2000
Boyd Co. coach Roger Zornes started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Caleb Stewart, 6-0 Sr. Adam Young, 6-8 Sr. Brandon Rose, 5-9 Sr. Tyler Borders, and 6-4 Sr. Tyler Zornes. Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-5 Sr. Scott Hundley, 6-2 Sr. Kenneth Chisley, 6-2 So. Coy Zerhusen, 5-10 So. C-3 Brown, and 5-11 Sr. Casey Alsop.
This game was billed as a match-up between Boyd County's 6-4 Sr. guard Tyler Zornes and Scott County's 6-5 Sr. Scott Hundley. Both were hyped as pre-season Mr. Basketball candidates. Boyd County took an 11-9 first quarter lead but Scott County roared back to lead at halftime 26-17. The third quarter became the Casey Alsop show as he lit up the scoreboard for 19 points including five "3's" to propel Scott County to a 50-23 lead at the end of the quarter. Scott County won the game by a score of 67-44.
Scott County was led by Hundley and Alsop with 21 each.
Hundley also pulled down 14 rebounds. Boyd County was led
by Young with 11 points. Zornes added
10 but was held to 3-18 field goal shooting by a stifling Scott County
defense. Boyd County also encountered early foul problems as Young
and Rose each picked up their fourth personal foul in the opening
minutes of the third quarter.
