This tournament is in its 18th year and is rich in tradition.  Past Champions have been Madison Central (1995-1996), Bryan Station (1996-1997), Scott County (1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002), Dixie Heights (2002-2003), Scott County (2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009, 2009-2010), George Rogers Clark (2010-2011), and Scott County (2011-2012).

 Four years ago the Toyota Classic added a round-robin girls’ event that featured four teams.

 This year’s field will consist of the following teams: Collins, Covington Catholic, Dixie Heights, Elizabethtown, Lafayette, Montgomery County, Perry County Central, and Scott County.  The girls’ round-robin event will consist of Bourbon County, Clay County, Scott County, and Woodford County.

Bourbon County  vs.  Scott County (Girls)

 

Bourbon County coach Juan Byars started the following lineup: 5-8 Fr. Anovia Byars, 5-7 So. Asia Sims, 5-8 Sr. Jazmen Chenault, 5-7 Jr. Jessica Stamper, and 5-6 Sr. Olivia Sparks.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 6-0 Jr. Tereka Guyn, 5-10 8th grade Lauren Boehm, 6-0 Jr. Iman Guy, 5-6 Sr. Tamara Ray, and 5-9 Sr. Laura Szorenyi.

 

Scott county defeated Bourbon County 84-76 in a high scoring affair in a game in which the two teams combined for 134 shots at the basket and 92 rebounds.  Scott County shot 42.4% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 24 of 33 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 19 Bourbon County turnovers.  Bourbon County shot 35.3% from the field including nine of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on 19 of 24 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.

 

Laura Szorenyi led Scott County with 29 points including 13 of 16 free throws, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Tereka Guyn added 24 points, 15 rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Lauren Boehm chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Iman Guy recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

 

Asia Sims led Bourbon County with 21 points including nine of 10 free throws, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Olivia Sparks added 17 points including five three point baskets.  5-6 Jr. Destinee Arnold chipped in with 15 points including four three point baskets.  Jazmen Chenault recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Dixie Heights coach Ken Chevalier started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Brandon Hatton, 6-3 So. Nick Niehaus, 6-3 Sr. Cameron Ruehr, 5-10 So. Liam Rabe, and 5-10 Jr. Adam Daria.  Montgomery County coach Happy Osborne countered with 6-7 Sr. Omar Prewitt, 6-3 So. Dixie Heights led 33-29 at halftime but Montgomery County rallied in the second half to earn a 67-52 victory.  Montgomery County shot 46.9% from the field including three of 15 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 18 of 28 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 20 Dixie Heights turnovers.  Dixie Heights shot 39.5% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 19 of 28 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored eight points off 14 Montgomery County turnovers.

 

Omar Prewitt led Montgomery County with 28 points including three three point baskets and 15 rebounds.  Bryan Wallace added 14 points.  Darius Jones chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.  Tyler Jones recorded seven points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.

 

Brandon Hatton led Dixie Heights with 21 points and seven rebounds.  Nick Niehaus added seven points.  6-4 Sr. Alex Milligan chipped in with six points and four rebounds.

Scott County led 28-25 at halftime but Collins outscored the Cardinals 18-8 in the third quarter on their way to a 61-54 victory.  Collins shot 56.8% from the field including one of four from the three point line.  The Titans connected on 18 of 23 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 10 points off eight Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 32.8% from the field including four of 19 from beyond the arc.  Scott County attempted 27 more shots (64-37) from the field than Collins.  The Cardinals connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 19 Collins turnovers.

 

6-3 Jr. Ralphie Stone led Collins with 18 points including 10 of 11 free throws and eight rebounds.  Buddy Johnson added 12 points.  Brent Kidwell chipped in with nine points and four assists.  Terez Smith recorded eight points and five rebounds and Dez Marshall added seven points and seven rebounds.

 

6-2 Jr. Trent Gilbert led Scott County with 16 points including three three point baskets.  Andrew Short added eight points and five rebounds and Tony Martini recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

Clay County  vs.  Woodford County  (Girls)

Clay County trailed 20-17 at halftime but rallied behind 60% shooting from the field in the second half to defeat Woodford County by a score of 53-46.  The score was tied three ties and there were 10 lead changes in this contest.  Clay County shot 53.7% from the field including two of three from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on seven of 14 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 15 Woodford County turnovers.  Woodford County shot 36.7% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Yellow Jackets connected on four of seven free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 16 Clay County turnovers.

 

Cheyenne Madden led Clay County with 24 points and three steals.  Morgan Chesnut added 14 points and seven rebounds.  Ajaycia Cotton recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

 

Chelsey Ford led Woodford County with 14 points and three steals.  Anastayzia Reed added 12 points and five rebounds.  Jessica Morgan recorded seven points and 10 rebounds.

Quinn Richardson led Scott County with 21 points and six steals.  Trent Gilbert and Jalen Haddix added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Tony Martini recorded seven points, nine rebounds, and four steals.

Covington Catholic outscored Elizabethtown 21-13 in the third quarter on their way to a 63-53 victory.  The score was tied twice and their were 10 lead changes in the game. Covington Catholic shot 42.6% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 11 of 14 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 20 Elizabethtown turnovers.  Elizabethtown shot 40.5% from the field including seven of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 16 of 29 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 13 Covington Catholic turnovers.

 

Nick Ruthsatz led Covington Catholic with 20 points including four three point baskets, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Nick Fredrick added 16 points including two three point baskets.  Bo Schuh recorded 14 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Sawyer Pauly chipped in with three points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

 

JaVon Cotton led Elizabethtown with 20 points including four three point baskets.  Zane Najdawi added 10 points.  Dominique Harding pulled down seven rebounds.

Lafayette trailed 37-21 in the first half but rallied for a 74-70 victory over Perry County Central.  There were six ties and five lead changes in this contest.  Lafayette shot 46.3% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 19 of 27 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 11 Perry County Central turnovers.  Perry County Central shot 50% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The commodores connected on four of seven free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored eight points off nine Lafayette turnovers.

 

Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 30 points and six rebounds.  Davis was nine of 13 from the field and 12 of 15 from the free throw line.  Nick Trisko added 14 points and 12 rebounds.  5-7 Jr. Dequise Robinson chipped in with 11 points.  6-3 Sr. Tranard Chester recorded nine points, four rebounds, and five assists.

Woodford County raced out to a 29-10 first quarter lead on their way to a 96-54 victory over Scott County.  Woodford County held a 36-21 advantage on three point points and an 11-2 advantage in second effort points.  Woodford County shot 52.9% from the field including 12 of 21 from the three point line.  The Lady Yellow Jackets connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 30.9% from the field including seven of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 13 of 19 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored seven points off 12 Woodford County turnovers.

 

Anastayzia Reed led Woodford County with 22 points including seven three point baskets.  Reed was seven of nine from the field, all of her shots came from beyond the arc and one of two from the free throw line.  Shelby McDonald also scored 22 points including three three point baskets.  Chelsey Ford added 14 points.  Hanna Morgan chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.  Jessica Morgan recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.

Morgan Chesnut led Clay County with 24 points including 14 of 20 free throws, 11 rebounds, and four steals.  Ajaycia Cotton added 13 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and three assists.  Cheyenne Madden chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.  Sara Robinson recorded eight points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and three steals. 

 

Olivia Sparks led Bourbon County with 10 points.  Jessica Stamper added eight points and four rebounds.  Asia Sims also scored eight points.

Collins led 42-37 after three quarters but Montgomery County outscored the Titans 22-5 in the final quarter to earn a 59-47 victory.  The score was tied four times and there were six lead changes.  Montgomery County shot 33.3% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 19 of 32 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 19 Collins turnovers.  Collins shot 32.7% from the field including one of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Titans connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Montgomery County turnovers.

 

Omar Prewitt led Montgomery County with 19 points including 10 of 16 free throws, 16 rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots, and three steals.  Bryan Wallace added 14 points and four rebounds.  Darius Jones chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Bo Schuh blocked a three point attempt late in the game to ensure a 72-70 Covington Catholic victory over Lafayette.  There were seven lead changes and two ties in this game.  Covington Catholic shot 49% from the field including eight of 16 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 14 of 20 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 21 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 45.2% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Covington Catholic turnovers.

 

Nick Fredrick led Covington Catholic with 21 points including five three point baskets.  Nick Ruthsatz added 15 points, five rebounds, and six assists.  6-2 Jr. Nate Wichmann chipped in with 14 points.  Zach Tobler also reached double figures with 13 points.

 

Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 27 points, 19 rebounds, four blocked shots, and three steals.  Davis was 11 of 17 from the field and five of eight from the free throw line.  Tranard Chester added 15 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and three steals.

Woodford County coach Jay Lucas started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Hanna Morgan, 5-9 So. Chelsey Ford, 6-1 Sr. Jessica Morgan, 5-5 So. Anastayzia Reed, and 5-5 Jr. Shelby McDonald.  Bourbon County coach Juan Byars countered with 5-8 Fr. Anovia Byars, 5-7 So. Asia Sims, 5-8 Sr. Jazmen Chenault, 5-7 Jr. Jessica Stamper, and 5-6 Sr. Olivia Sparks.

 

Woodford County raced out to a 15-2 first quarter lead on their way to a 58-48 victory over Bourbon County.  Woodford County shot 37.3% from the field including seven of 25 from the three point line.  The Lady Yellow Jackets connected on 13 of 23 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 20 Bourbon County turnovers.  Bourbon County shot 26.4% from the field including four of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on 16 of 19 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 24 Woodford County turnovers.

 

Hanna Morgan led Woodford County with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Chelsey Ford added 11 points.  Shelby McDonald chipped in with nine points, six rebounds, and six assists.  Anastayzia Reed added eight points and Jessica Morgan recorded seven points and eight rebounds.

 

Asia Sims led Bourbon County with 18 points including 10 of 11 free throws and eight rebounds.  Olivia Sparks added nine points.  Jazmen Chenault pulled down eight rebounds.

Clay County defeated Scott County by a score of 56-53.  There were six lead changes and three ties in this contest.  Clay County shot 37.3% from the field including six of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 38.8% from the field including seven of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on eight of nine free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored five points off eight Clay County turnovers.

 

TaLaura Mathis led Clay County with 17 points including five three point baskets.  Morgan Chesnut added 15 points and eight rebounds.  Cheynne Madden recorded 15 points and seven rebounds.  Sara Robinson chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.

 

Laura Szorenyi led Scott County with 19 points and four assists.  Bailey Hawkins added 15 points on five three point baskets.  Tereka Guyn chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds.  Iman Guy pulled down 11 rebounds.

Zane Najdawi led Elizabethtown with 12 points.  5-11 Jr. Nic McDonald added 10 points.  Dominique Harding recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

Scott County pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Perry County Central by a score of 75-56.  Scott County shot 50% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 25 of 31 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 13 Perry County Central turnovers.  Perry County Central shot 47.6% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on 15 of 25 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored five points off seven Scott County turnovers.

 

Trent Gilbert led Scott County with 24 points including two three point baskets.  Quinn Richardson added 19 points including 13 of 14 free throws and four assists.  Andrew Short chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Tony Martini pulled down eight rebounds.

Lafayette attempted 16 more shots (64-48) from the field than Collins.  The Generals connected on 17 of 35 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 24 Collins turnovers.  Collins shot 58.3% from the field including four of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Titans connected on 17 of 24 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 15 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  6-5 Sr. Charles Sweat-Washington added 19 points and six rebounds.  Tranard Chester chipped in with 15 points including two three point baskets and four steals.  Nick Trisko recorded 14 points and six rebounds.

Montgomery County claimed the championship with a 77-67 victory over Covington Catholic in a game which resulted in a melee in the final quarter with several technical fouls being assessed and players and a coach being ejected from the game.  Montgomery County shot 59.1% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 22 of 37 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 12 Covington Catholic turnovers.  Covington Catholic shot 33.8% from the field including eight of 21 from beyond the arc.  Covington Catholic attempted 21 more shots (65-44) from the field than Montgomery County.  The Colonels connected on 15 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 21 Montgomery County turnovers.

 

Omar Prewitt led Montgomery County with 36 points including three three point baskets and 11 of 14 free throws, 13 rebounds, and three assists.  Bryan Wallace added 16 points and eight rebounds.  Darius Jones chipped in with 14 points.  Tyler Jones recorded seven points and eight assists.
