Estill County (1-1) vs. Paul L. Dunbar (0-2)

Estill County coach Larry Tiller started the following lineup:  6-2 Sr. Jesse Puckett, 6-3 Sr. Clinton Dixon, 6-4 Sr. Stuart Reese, 6-1 So. Blake Christopher, and 6-1 Jr. Cody Berryman.  Paul L. Dunbar coach Carl "Redd" Hutchinson countered with Tyler Rogers, 6-7 Sr. Brandon Sok, 6-6 Sr. Deontay Wright, 5-11 Fr. Nick Hudson, and 5-10 So. Dion Johnson.

Paul Dunbar survived a roller-coaster affair tonight to give Coach Hutchinson his first victory at Dunbar by a score of 55-52 over Estill County.  Dunbar fell behind 17-3 early in the second quarter but scrapped back to take a 23-21 lead at halftime.  Dunbar actually extended their lead to 12 points but Estill County rallied and, aided by several missed free throws, pulled to within one point, 53-52, late in the game.  Dunbar hit two free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.

Paul Dunbar shot 38% from the field, could only manage 13 of 29 free throws, and pulled down 37 rebounds.  The Bulldogs scored 22 points off 20 Estill County turnovers.  Estill County shot 31.4% from the field, connected on 18 of 31 free throws, and pulled down 49 rebounds.  Dunbar committed 21 turnovers but Estill County could only convert for 12 points.

Deontay Wright led Dunbar with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Nick Hudson and Dion Johnson added 11 points each.  5-7 So. Damon Powell came off the bench to record 10 points and was named player of the game.  Clinton Dixon led Estill County with 16 points and 19 rebounds.  Stuart Reese added 12 points and Jesse Puckett chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.
