  • 5/17/00 - At the official site they said exactly what the limited edition Mad Season CD is all about:
    This limited edition is in special faux leather book form with bound pages and will become extinct when limited supply is exhausted...so get yours today!

    Welp I just got my CosmoGirl in the mail today (pathetic huh? Lol) an' on page 106 is that ad for mbt again where they're standing in the room, except this one's got a white border around the pic which makes it kinda ugly. So that's in there. Wow, I've just been flipping through and on page 82 there's a cd review. Here 'tis:

    Matchbox Twenty has teamed up with LAUNCH to provide web surfers a first look at the band's new video, "Bent," while the world awaits the release of the sophomore album Mad Season By Matchbox Twenty. The album is due out May 23, but "Bent" already sits at Number 16 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart. While viewing "Bent" online at LAUNCH, Internet users will also have a chance to win one of two signed guitars from the band. The Ernie Ball guitars have been signed by the Grammy-winning Rob Thomas and the rest of the band, and the promotion was made possible by Target stores.
    Matchbox Twenty's first album, Yourself Or Someone Like You, was released in the fall of 1996. The band spent the subsequent years on the road, and LAUNCH asked drummer Paul Doucette what keeps the band going strong.
    "Staying busy. I think that has a lot to do with it -- the fact that we haven't had time to soak it in, and we don't plan on it," he said. "We know that what we do is, you know we're not curing cancer, you know? We're not, like, stopping world hunger. We're a band and we put out a record. I'm glad people like it, but that's really not that great of a thing. That's kind of the view we have. It's, like, we're just a band. Right now that we're a band that people like and hopefully people will continue to like. I don't think that'll be a problem for us."
    Also, someone said that they went to Wal-Mart and they had a poster of Rob and the guys with the peacocks. I'm not sure if that person could actually buy the poster, or if it was just for display, but it was there, along with signs saying that they're gonna be showing "Behind the Madness" on May 23rd in the electronics section (on all the TVs).

    Remember that special surprise I mentioned in the newsletter… the few limited edition "Mad Season by matchbox twenty" albums SIGNED BY THE BAND! Well, we're working out the details to make sure you all get a fair shot at your own signed CD. Keep in mind that there are two albums that will be released. The first is the Limited edition album which is a gift from the band to you. This will only be available in the first few weeks so get yours while you can. The second is the regular version with the blue cover.

    In order to test market the different ways the public can benefit from the impending merger between AOL and Time Warner, Matchbox Twenty's second album, "Mad Season By Matchbox Twenty," will come packaged with AOL software. The band's label, Atlantic Records, is a division of Time Warner. To get things running, AOL will offer a streaming version of the band's current single, "Bent." The album, to be released May 23, will feature access to AOL 5.0, the audio player Winamp and Internet music service Spinner. Through Winamp, fans will be able to hear an unreleased track, "You & I & I," recorded live in Australia. The CD will also offer access to "Matchbox Twenty Radio," an Internet radio station featuring 100 songs hand-picked by the band. Artists they chose include Stevie Wonder and the Beatles.
