Rob: "You meet a lot of guys [on the road ], like I met this guy who wanted me to pose naked for a men's magazine, and some other guy who pulls over, and I'm like the farthest, farthest, farthest thing from homophobic. I mean, I'm like borderline bitch. But, I get in the car, close the door, put my bag behind the seat, it's a truck, we pull off, I look back, see some golf clubs, and say 'Do you golf?' he looks over, he's like 65, and he goes, 'Listen son,' exact words, I'll never forget them, 'I'm a gay person. Do you mind if we pull off over here and I suck ya?' I was like, 'a no.' 'So you don't mind?' I was like, 'a.. no, I just appreciate the ride.' And he was like 'Well, how about if I just touch ya?' and he reaches over and starts grabbin' for my package, and we're doing like 70 and I grab the gear shift, the truck starts rattlin', stops, and I get out, I'm like kickin' the truck. I was like 17 or 18, it was f*cked up."
Adam: "That's
when he started hating golf."
It's almost
hard to think this was the same band that was nearly hooted off the stage
by a group of hecklers while opening for No Doubt in April, 1997 in the Freeman
Coliseum. "Adam Gaynor and I still laugh about the time we did the No Doubt
show in San Antonio," Thomas said in a phone interview from Los Angeles.
"It was terrible. Our first song was our sound check and a small group of
guys in front of the stage kept yelling 'You suck' at the band."After exchanging
barbs with them, Thomas made the mistake of handing the microphone to one
of the hecklers with instructions to "say something clever." Not surprisingly,
one hollered, "You suck! Get off the stage." And Thomas did. "Adam and the
band kept playing. They weren't sure if I was even going to come back out
or not. I was really sensitive about those kind of things back then, but
I did go back out and played a couple more songs anyway," he
said.
Ya know in the beiginning of the Push video, where Rob is sitting on the curb and he's got that little wooden puppet dude? Look a little familiar? It might if you've visited the Tabitha's Secret website. It's said that the little wooden joker/puppet dude is sort of like the mascot of Tabitha's Secret, and that in the video, Rob was sort of saying "Goodbye" to his days with Tabitha's Secret.
