AOL Transcript (5/22/00)

Okies, this was REALLY long because the guys used something where they could talk into and it automatically typed that - they didn't type everything out by hand and that's why there's a lot of spelling mistakes (from sound) and why there's long responses to each question, which is good, right?

AOL LIVE: Host: AOL Live would like to
AOL LIVE: welcome Atlantic recording
AOL LIVE: artist matchbox twenty.
AOL LIVE: Tonight they have joined to us
AOL LIVE: promote their current club tour
AOL LIVE: and new single "Bent."
AOL LIVE: Their release "Mad Season" hits
AOL LIVE: the streets tomorrow.
AOL LIVE: Do you have any opening
AOL LIVE: comments?
AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: Hello from the
AOL LIVE: band.
AOL LIVE: Hey, everybody.
AOL LIVE: Thanks for hanging out with us.
AOL LIVE: That was Adam.
AOL LIVE: Host: We have questions already
AOL LIVE: starting to come in from our
AOL LIVE: members.
AOL LIVE: The first question I have here
AOL LIVE: is from a member named levy 20.
AOL LIVE: How does it feel to be back on
AOL LIVE: the road?
AOL LIVE: Rob: It feels great.
OnlineHost: To send your question to the guest,
OnlineHost: click on the "Ask the Guest a Question"
OnlineHost: button, then use the "Send Question"
OnlineHost: option.
AOL LIVE: We've been off for like nine
AOL LIVE: months or more.
AOL LIVE: We've been off for a year total.
AOL LIVE: It feels really good, especially
AOL LIVE: because we're doing small clubs.
AOL LIVE: The small clubs is like that
AOL LIVE: super energy shot.
AOL LIVE: Host: The next question we have
AOL LIVE: here is from angel eyes number
AOL LIVE: four.
AOL LIVE: I love you guys.
AOL LIVE: What's your favorite song off
AOL LIVE: the new album?
AOL LIVE: Paul: I have to say my favorite
AOL LIVE: song is probably "The Burn."
AOL LIVE: Rob: Mine is "You Won't Be Mine"
AOL LIVE: Adam: For the love of god I
AOL LIVE: can't think of my favorite song.
AOL LIVE: Host: This is a question I heard
AOL LIVE: before.
AOL LIVE: It's from swti 521.
AOL LIVE: What made you decide to change
AOL LIVE: the 20 to twenty spelled out?
AOL LIVE: Paul: We didn't really -- we
AOL LIVE: didn't change the name, that's
AOL LIVE: the first thing.
AOL LIVE: It's still twenty.
AOL LIVE: We like the way it looks.
AOL LIVE: We kind of always intended to do
AOL LIVE: that.
AOL LIVE: You could still use the numbers,
AOL LIVE: if you want.
AOL LIVE: We're still going to use them
AOL LIVE: sometimes, too.
AOL LIVE: It's the same word.
AOL LIVE: Luckily you can represent it two
AOL LIVE: different ways.
AOL LIVE: Host: Ok.
AOL LIVE: From jonas 360.
AOL LIVE: He asks, do you feel that you've
AOL LIVE: grown since your last album?
AOL LIVE: And if so, how?
AOL LIVE: And why did it take three years
AOL LIVE: for you to have a new album come
AOL LIVE: out?
AOL LIVE: Was it because of the sanity --
AOL LIVE: San tana project?
AOL LIVE: Rob: No.
AOL LIVE: The sanityAnna project happened
AOL LIVE: over the last three years.
AOL LIVE: While when were out touring the
AOL LIVE: last record, we couldn't go make
AOL LIVE: this record.
AOL LIVE: That was why it took so long.
AOL LIVE: The record came out in 1996.
AOL LIVE: But for the first year, it
AOL LIVE: didn't really do that well.
AOL LIVE: after "Push" came out, it really
AOL LIVE: started to take off.
AOL LIVE: It's somewhere in the middle.
AOL LIVE: Host: We have a question here
AOL LIVE: from neddie 1989.
AOL LIVE: How does the video "Bent" relate
AOL LIVE: to the song?
AOL LIVE: I love it, but the meaning of
AOL LIVE: the song is so different from
AOL LIVE: the video to me.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I just want to ask how
AOL LIVE: long it took him to get that
AOL LIVE: question through?
AOL LIVE: Rob: This is Rob.
AOL LIVE: I think Paul could best answer
AOL LIVE: that.
AOL LIVE: Paul?
AOL LIVE: Paul: I think, to tell you the
AOL LIVE: truth, I don't really know.
AOL LIVE: I can't answer it.
AOL LIVE: Rob: I think it was just because
AOL LIVE: it was the feeling of the song
AOL LIVE: to us.
AOL LIVE: There was definitely an
AOL LIVE: emotional undercurrent to the
AOL LIVE: song that was about, it had a
AOL LIVE: hopeful tune to it.
AOL LIVE: The idea of the video, it wasn't
AOL LIVE: about me getting beat up.
AOL LIVE: The idea of the video was me
AOL LIVE: getting up after all these
AOL LIVE: things and still going on and
AOL LIVE: getting up no matter what
AOL LIVE: happens during the course of the
AOL LIVE: day.
AOL LIVE: That was the way the song made
AOL LIVE: us feel.
AOL LIVE: That was the feeling we got when
AOL LIVE: we listened to it.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Can you put a big smiley
AOL LIVE: face and say I am just looking
AOL LIVE: to everybody?
AOL LIVE: Host: Hopefully they can do
AOL LIVE: that.
AOL LIVE: There it goes.
AOL LIVE: We have a question about
AOL LIVE: medicals ma records.
AOL LIVE: Is it a record label of yours or
AOL LIVE: an imprant of yours?
AOL LIVE: Paul: Melissa Slusarski records
AOL LIVE: is Matt Serletic, hour producer.
AOL LIVE: We don't have anything to do
AOL LIVE: with medicals ma records, --
AOL LIVE: melisma records.
AOL LIVE: Paul: Our old tour manager Dean
AOL LIVE: runs that label.
AOL LIVE: Adam: This is Adam checking out
AOL LIVE: everybody in the room.
AOL LIVE: Host: Who were your influences
AOL LIVE: were when you were growing up
AOL LIVE: and if they are still your
AOL LIVE: infleenses?
AOL LIVE: And who are your modern
AOL LIVE: influences?
AOL LIVE: Rob: Growing up, it was all the
AOL LIVE: songwriters that I still love,
AOL LIVE: he'llton John, Billy Joel, Paul
AOL LIVE: Simon, Peter Gabriel.
AOL LIVE: Songwriters still fascinate me,
AOL LIVE: Joe Henry, jetliner Faulkner.
AOL LIVE: It's -- Jason Faulkner.
AOL LIVE: It's still the jame vibe I latch
AOL LIVE: on to
AOL LIVE: Paul: The beatles are probably
AOL LIVE: the biggest for me as a kid.
AOL LIVE: And still for this day.
AOL LIVE: Modern, I would have to say Tom
AOL LIVE: Waites, his entire catalogue is
AOL LIVE: pretty big.
AOL LIVE: And Wilco.
AOL LIVE: We'll say it again, Wilco.
AOL LIVE: Adam: My dad was a really big
AOL LIVE: influence on me, but I don't
AOL LIVE: know if that was good or bad.
AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: Can we all use
AOL LIVE: that, by the way?
AOL LIVE: Host: Next up we have deathstar
AOL LIVE: asking, is the rumor true that
AOL LIVE: after touring for this album you
AOL LIVE: will all pursue solo careers?
AOL LIVE: Rob: No.
AOL LIVE: Host: Anyone else care to
AOL LIVE: comment?
AOL LIVE: Adam: I was thinking of opening
AOL LIVE: a tacko stand next summer, but
AOL LIVE: that's a long way aways.
AOL LIVE: Paul: Yes.
AOL LIVE: Host: Next question is from rent
AOL LIVE: 3798.
AOL LIVE: When are you guys starting the
AOL LIVE: full tour?
AOL LIVE: I guess that means after the
AOL LIVE: club tour.
AOL LIVE: Rob: After the club tour is
AOL LIVE: over, we're going to go to
AOL LIVE: Europe for a month.
AOL LIVE: When we come back, we're going
AOL LIVE: to plan out, it's going to be
AOL LIVE: college arenas is the route on
AOL LIVE: that tour.
AOL LIVE: That's going to be the next
AOL LIVE: thing we wind up doing tourwise
AOL LIVE: in the states, but not the last.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Just want to say to all
AOL LIVE: our fans, thanks for being
AOL LIVE: patient for our smaller club
AOL LIVE: run.
AOL LIVE: It's been really, really fun to
AOL LIVE: get up close with everybody.
AOL LIVE: We know some people have been
AOL LIVE: frustrated for not getting in.
AOL LIVE: We're going to be around for a
AOL LIVE: couple of years touring, and you
AOL LIVE: are going to get sick of us
AOL LIVE: newway.
AOL LIVE: Host: The next question is, I
AOL LIVE: love "Bent."
AOL LIVE: What is your next single going
AOL LIVE: to be off the C.D.?
AOL LIVE: Paul: We don't know yet.
AOL LIVE: It's too early to tell.
AOL LIVE: Host: We have a lot of people
AOL LIVE: asking, too, how the new C.D.
AOL LIVE: release is different from your
AOL LIVE: past work?
AOL LIVE: Paul: I think, I just think that
AOL LIVE: we grew up a little bit.
AOL LIVE: It just kind of -- it's the same
AOL LIVE: band four years later, so it's
AOL LIVE: whatever differences happen in
AOL LIVE: four years.
AOL LIVE: Adam: This is Adam dot, dot,
AOL LIVE: dot, sipping a nice beverage.
AOL LIVE: Host: Since there was so much
AOL LIVE: time between your last C.D. and
AOL LIVE: your newest release, did you
AOL LIVE: ever get sick of the songs off
AOL LIVE: your last album and which ones?
AOL LIVE: Rob: I didn't get sick of any
AOL LIVE: songs on the record, but you do
AOL LIVE: get sick of ones you didn't want
AOL LIVE: to play every night.
AOL LIVE: There were some songs that are
AOL LIVE: more fun to listen to than play
AOL LIVE: live.
AOL LIVE: Then there were some we thought
AOL LIVE: we were tired of playing, but
AOL LIVE: when we came back out, they were
AOL LIVE: all fun again, you know?
AOL LIVE: Host: This is from death star 20
AOL LIVE: again.
AOL LIVE: She's back.
AOL LIVE: Does kyle have any solo singing
AOL LIVE: on this album like he did on the
AOL LIVE: last?
AOL LIVE: I think his voice is beautiful.
AOL LIVE: Rob: I this I his voice is
AOL LIVE: beautiful, too there are times
AOL LIVE: his voice is featured, almost
AOL LIVE: like an instrument.
AOL LIVE: He doesn't sing like he did on
AOL LIVE: "Hang."
AOL LIVE: Hopefully he will in the future.
AOL LIVE: Hopefully he will sing one of
AOL LIVE: his songs in the future.
AOL LIVE: Paul: We did record one of
AOL LIVE: Kyle's songs.
AOL LIVE: We didn't get to finish it in
AOL LIVE: time to put it on the record.
AOL LIVE: So hopefully we'll put that out
AOL LIVE: at some point or he's going to
AOL LIVE: put it out or whatever.
AOL LIVE: It's a great song.
AOL LIVE: Adam: On the album there are a
AOL LIVE: lot of nice moments, whether
AOL LIVE: there are featured parts or
AOL LIVE: background parts, there are a
AOL LIVE: nice amount of nice moments
AOL LIVE: where you can tell Kyle's voice
AOL LIVE: is chiming in in the back and
AOL LIVE: it's great.
AOL LIVE: Host: This was just a comment
AOL LIVE: from someone in the audience.
AOL LIVE: They wanted to congratulate Rob
AOL LIVE: on his marriage and saw coverage
AOL LIVE: of it on television and thought
AOL LIVE: it was beautiful.
AOL LIVE: Rob: Thank you very much.
AOL LIVE: We had -- it was one of our
AOL LIVE: favorite days.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I taped it.
AOL LIVE: Host: Excellent.
AOL LIVE: Next up.
AOL LIVE: I kind of know sort of the
AOL LIVE: answer to this one already.
AOL LIVE: What songs would you like to
AOL LIVE: cover in concert?
AOL LIVE: And also, would you ever cover
AOL LIVE: on any of your C.D.s?
AOL LIVE: Rob: I don't think we'll do any
AOL LIVE: covers on our C.D.s.
AOL LIVE: We're also diverse in ourselves
AOL LIVE: trying to figure out a cover we
AOL LIVE: all want to do is so hard.
AOL LIVE: I wanted to do a "Supertramp".
AOL LIVE: Someone wanted to do a Beatles
AOL LIVE: tune.
AOL LIVE: If there is one we want to do
AOL LIVE: we'll wind up doing it sooner or
AOL LIVE: later.
AOL LIVE: Adam: With a band inside secret,
AOL LIVE: the hardest thing for us ever to
AOL LIVE: figure out what to do is pick a
AOL LIVE: cover song.
AOL LIVE: Host: The next question is from
AOL LIVE: angel eyes number four.
AOL LIVE: What inspired the title for your
AOL LIVE: new album "Mad Season"?
AOL LIVE: Paul: There is a song on the
AOL LIVE: record called "Mad Season."
AOL LIVE: The title -- it's a little
AOL LIVE: different for the title.
AOL LIVE: The title means the period of
AOL LIVE: time that we went through from
AOL LIVE: before, you know, we had a
AOL LIVE: record out to where we're now.
AOL LIVE: And all the crazy things that go
AOL LIVE: on around you during that
AOL LIVE: period.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I would like Adam.
AOL LIVE: Tying shoes.
AOL LIVE: Host: He wants to know, Rob,
AOL LIVE: what it was like working with a
AOL LIVE: master guitarist, Carlos
AOL LIVE: Santana.
AOL LIVE: Rob: It was great.
AOL LIVE: He was a great guy AOL LIVE: Obviously, he's a wonderful
AOL LIVE: musician.
AOL LIVE: Didn't it's something you can't
AOL LIVE: ever forget.
AOL LIVE: It was great.
AOL LIVE: Not just the success of it
AOL LIVE: because it was great before it
AOL LIVE: became what it was.
AOL LIVE: It was great when we were in the
AOL LIVE: studio making it.
AOL LIVE: Host: This one is from sland
AOL LIVE: eight.
AOL LIVE: I notice the new album is a lot
AOL LIVE: jazzier.
AOL LIVE: I wonder if you have new
AOL LIVE: influences on the album and
AOL LIVE: where it is coming from?
AOL LIVE: Paul: We get influenced every
AOL LIVE: single day.
AOL LIVE: I think everyone kind of
AOL LIVE: combines, looks a lot more
AOL LIVE: towards thinks that are released
AOL LIVE: years ago.
AOL LIVE: We looked a lot more towards the
AOL LIVE: 1960's and 1970's and early
AOL LIVE: 1980's for our influences on
AOL LIVE: this record.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Tell everyone to come to
AOL LIVE: the web site tomorrow and say,
AOL LIVE: hey, because we're excited about
AOL LIVE: opening up our web site matchbox
AOL LIVE: twenty.com.
AOL LIVE: Host: Another key word matchbox
AOL LIVE: twenty links directly up to
AOL LIVE: their web site.
AOL LIVE: Check it out. AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: AOL. AOL LIVE: Is it available in Australia?
AOL LIVE: Host: It is.
AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: Is AOL
AOL LIVE: available in mongolia?
AOL LIVE: Host: For the privileged few.
AOL LIVE: Our next question is from fungus
AOL LIVE: amungus.
AOL LIVE: How did you get your first
AOL LIVE: break?
AOL LIVE: Paul: I fell roller skating.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I would recommend Desenex
AOL LIVE: and it will probably go away.
AOL LIVE: Rob: It was a lot of playing in
AOL LIVE: crappy little bars and for no
AOL LIVE: money whatsoever is really the
AOL LIVE: best way to get a break.
AOL LIVE: A break is really just someone
AOL LIVE: giving you a chance.
AOL LIVE: The first real break is getting
AOL LIVE: a record deal, you know?
AOL LIVE: And that was, that happened just
AOL LIVE: from a string of events that
AOL LIVE: were half luck and half just
AOL LIVE: knowing the right people.
AOL LIVE: Host: This one is from nessa
AOL LIVE: bear 424.
AOL LIVE: How long were you guys in a band
AOL LIVE: before you became famous?
AOL LIVE: Were you in a band called
AOL LIVE: Tabitha's secret?
AOL LIVE: Paul: Rob and I were in
AOL LIVE: Tabitha's secret.
AOL LIVE: We were with that band for three
AOL LIVE: years and quit that band and
AOL LIVE: formed matchbox twenty.
AOL LIVE: That was six years ago.
AOL LIVE: How long ago?
AOL LIVE: I am sorry, it was Five years
AOL LIVE: ago.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I hope you enjoyed my
AOL LIVE: earlier work with the Monkees.
AOL LIVE: Host: We have fem 4 panty.
AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: Nice.
AOL LIVE: Host: What is the best route for
AOL LIVE: up and coming bands to get
AOL LIVE: recognized?
AOL LIVE: Who did your bookings in the
AOL LIVE: beginning, and how tough was it
AOL LIVE: for you to shop your material
AOL LIVE: around to the bigger labels?
AOL LIVE: Rob: It's a whole other world
AOL LIVE: out there today.
AOL LIVE: There are so many ways you can
AOL LIVE: get your band known.
AOL LIVE: You can start selling records
AOL LIVE: right over the internet when you
AOL LIVE: are a new band that.
AOL LIVE: Was an option we didn't know we
AOL LIVE: had when we were out.
AOL LIVE: When we were out it was just --
AOL LIVE: Paul: We didn't have one of
AOL LIVE: those internets.
AOL LIVE: We had to carry our gigs with
AOL LIVE: our bare feet.
AOL LIVE: Rob: That was sarcasm.
AOL LIVE: He grins.
AOL LIVE: The thing is, the only other way
AOL LIVE: is, we would go in ourselves and
AOL LIVE: we would go to clubs and find
AOL LIVE: out when we could play there and
AOL LIVE: bring a tape.
AOL LIVE: They would have to call you and
AOL LIVE: let you come and play.
AOL LIVE: You would have to play at some
AOL LIVE: crappy time when no one was
AOL LIVE: there and you would try to get a
AOL LIVE: good night.
AOL LIVE: You have to do it because you
AOL LIVE: love to play music.
AOL LIVE: For the longest time, you don't
AOL LIVE: make a dime.
AOL LIVE: You wind up paying money to
AOL LIVE: play.
AOL LIVE: Paul: I would like to make a
AOL LIVE: comment about this.
AOL LIVE: Take control of your careers
AOL LIVE: from the day you start.
AOL LIVE: Always know what's going on.
AOL LIVE: Always.
AOL LIVE: Adam: You know, I give you some
AOL LIVE: suggestions.
AOL LIVE: I talk to a lot of people in the
AOL LIVE: industry of music.
AOL LIVE: I found out that try to write
AOL LIVE: some nice songs.
AOL LIVE: If you can write some nice
AOL LIVE: songs, people will respond.
AOL LIVE: Don't grow your hair, kids.
AOL LIVE: It's not about growing your hair
AOL LIVE: and putting on them fancy
AOL LIVE: clothes.
AOL LIVE: It's about writing them songs.
AOL LIVE: Rob: They things that matter.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Three things that matter.
AOL LIVE: Rob: The three things that
AOL LIVE: matter are the song, the song --
AOL LIVE: Adam: Paul, what is the third
AOL LIVE: one?
AOL LIVE: Paul: Don't sign anything
AOL LIVE: without showing it to your
AOL LIVE: lawyer, a good lawyer!
AOL LIVE: The biggest mistake you will
AOL LIVE: make before you have a record
AOL LIVE: deal.
AOL LIVE: Adam: This is Adam wondering if
AOL LIVE: he has a problem he should be
AOL LIVE: more aware of?
AOL LIVE: Host: Sounds like some good
AOL LIVE: advice.
AOL LIVE: Next up we have Jay workees
AOL LIVE: asking what kind of guitars do
AOL LIVE: you use?
AOL LIVE: Adam: Kyle and I --
AOL LIVE: Paul: New ones.
AOL LIVE: Fresh ones right out of the
AOL LIVE: Forest.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Kyle uses P.R. and deals
AOL LIVE: with music man.
AOL LIVE: I just started dealing with g&l.
AOL LIVE: Actually, we all kind of use
AOL LIVE: Taylor acoustics, which make us AOL LIVE: very happy live.
AOL LIVE: very happy live.
AOL LIVE: Host: Next up we have a question
AOL LIVE: about the new album.
AOL LIVE: Do you feel threatened by all of
AOL LIVE: the praise from "Someone like
AOL LIVE: you" did it intimidate you to
AOL LIVE: have to put out another album?
AOL LIVE: Paul: No.
AOL LIVE: It actually made it easier.
AOL LIVE: A lot of the concerns we would
AOL LIVE: have if our record wasn't widely
AOL LIVE: accepted aren't there.
AOL LIVE: We didn't have to worry about,
AOL LIVE: are we going to get to make
AOL LIVE: another record?
AOL LIVE: We could take our time and do it
AOL LIVE: right.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I am listening to Rob play
AOL LIVE: his xylephone by the telephone.
AOL LIVE: Host: We have tdyunker asking,
AOL LIVE: how is it being newly married
AOL LIVE: and putting out a new C.D., Rob?
AOL LIVE: Is it hard to be on the road
AOL LIVE: right now?
AOL LIVE: Rob: It's actually quite easy to
AOL LIVE: be on the road because my wife
AOL LIVE: is with me on the road.
AOL LIVE: I never have to call her and
AOL LIVE: say, I am not going to be home
AOL LIVE: for two weeks.
AOL LIVE: Instead I have to call her at
AOL LIVE: the hotel and say, honey, we're
AOL LIVE: not going to be home for two
AOL LIVE: weeks.
AOL LIVE: We don't have that separation
AOL LIVE: anxiety.
AOL LIVE: Host: The next question is, if
AOL LIVE: you could tour with any bands,
AOL LIVE: what is your wish list?
AOL LIVE: Rob: Everybody give a band.
AOL LIVE: Paul?
AOL LIVE: Paul: I'll say it again, Wilco.
AOL LIVE: I'll say it again, Wilco.
AOL LIVE: Adam: You know, it's sad to say,
AOL LIVE: kids, that I had a band in mind
AOL LIVE: four days ago, and I can't -- I
AOL LIVE: am going to stall and talk and
AOL LIVE: it's not going to make any
AOL LIVE: sense.
AOL LIVE: You're going to read this and
AOL LIVE: say, what is he talking about?
AOL LIVE: Rob is going to give you an
AOL LIVE: answer.
AOL LIVE: Rob: I would go out with James
AOL LIVE: Brown.
AOL LIVE: Paul: On the road every night,
AOL LIVE: sitting out watching James
AOL LIVE: Brown?
AOL LIVE: Adam: And thrown in some Jackson
AOL LIVE: Five.
AOL LIVE: Rob: I want to go out with some
AOL LIVE: bands that aren't together.
AOL LIVE: I would like to go out with the
AOL LIVE: Beatles.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I want to go out with the
AOL LIVE: Beatles.
AOL LIVE: Host: The yes is, hey, how do
AOL LIVE: you think your lives have
AOL LIVE: changed from before you were
AOL LIVE: famous to the present?
AOL LIVE: Adam: A lot more catering.
AOL LIVE: Better hotel rooms.
AOL LIVE: Paul: My life hasn't changed at
AOL LIVE: all.
AOL LIVE: I still live at home with my
AOL LIVE: mom.
AOL LIVE: I don't know.
AOL LIVE: It's funny because -- I mean, I
AOL LIVE: don't feel famous.
AOL LIVE: Like we just do our thing.
AOL LIVE: Adam: The coolest thing about
AOL LIVE: having any kind of success is
AOL LIVE: being able to hand your
AOL LIVE: underwear to somebody and it
AOL LIVE: comes back the next day clean.
AOL LIVE: Paul: There you go.
AOL LIVE: I think he said it all.
AOL LIVE: Host: Next question is from --
AOL LIVE: you guys are definitely
AOL LIVE: comedians, I've got to say.
AOL LIVE: It's from mbjkm bow.
AOL LIVE: If you weren't in a popular band
AOL LIVE: what would you be doing right
AOL LIVE: now?
AOL LIVE: Could you see yourselves doing
AOL LIVE: anything other than being
AOL LIVE: musicians?
AOL LIVE: Rob: I would be delivering
AOL LIVE: flowers, maybe.
AOL LIVE: I am not quite sure.
AOL LIVE: That it's sad thing.
AOL LIVE: That's the thing that puts
AOL LIVE: everything in perspective for
AOL LIVE: me.
AOL LIVE: I am not really good at anything
AOL LIVE: else other than this.
AOL LIVE: I don't put a lot of stock in
AOL LIVE: it.
AOL LIVE: It can't be that important.
AOL LIVE: I don't know anything about
AOL LIVE: cars.
AOL LIVE: I am an awful waiter and an
AOL LIVE: awful construction worker and I
AOL LIVE: am not that good of a driver.
AOL LIVE: Paul: I would go to film school.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Nice.
AOL LIVE: I have this idea for a tacko
AOL LIVE: stand in south beach with 108
AOL LIVE: degree weather and freshly
AOL LIVE: ground beef.
AOL LIVE: good combination.
AOL LIVE: Host: Definitely.
AOL LIVE: Next question is simple.
AOL LIVE: Have you ever used AOL or the
AOL LIVE: internet?
AOL LIVE: Paul: I officially got my first
AOL LIVE: AOL account a couple of weeks
AOL LIVE: ago.
AOL LIVE: [Applause]
AOL LIVE: Adam: This is Adam and Rob
AOL LIVE: clapping wildly.
AOL LIVE: Paul: I have then got a computer
AOL LIVE: and not turned it on.
AOL LIVE: Rob: I have an account.
AOL LIVE: No one that knows my address,
AOL LIVE: the only person that knows it is
AOL LIVE: my wife.
AOL LIVE: We only use it for the simple
AOL LIVE: stuff like shopping and porn.
AOL LIVE: Paul: You get the second one of
AOL LIVE: the day.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I think that I have my
AOL LIVE: computer with me and I, on a
AOL LIVE: daily basis, I check my mail two
AOL LIVE: times.
AOL LIVE: I think it's very important that
AOL LIVE: I find out what Rob's e-mail
AOL LIVE: address is to send him pictures.
AOL LIVE: Paul: The guys in the band don't
AOL LIVE: know mine either.
AOL LIVE: Rob: If I gave Adam my e-mail
AOL LIVE: address, he would e-mail me
AOL LIVE: every day.
AOL LIVE: He has my phone number.
AOL LIVE: When we're apart, he would never
AOL LIVE: call me.
AOL LIVE: He would e-mail me every day.
AOL LIVE: There is something wrong with
AOL LIVE: that.
AOL LIVE: You are on the other side too
AOL LIVE: much.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I think I probably would.
AOL LIVE: Host: The next question, since
AOL LIVE: you guys toured all over the
AOL LIVE: world, do you have a favorite
AOL LIVE: country or place or favorite
AOL LIVE: venue?
AOL LIVE: Paul: My favorite place that we
AOL LIVE: ever toured is Australia.
AOL LIVE: I love playing in Melbourne.
AOL LIVE: That's my favorite town in the
AOL LIVE: world.
AOL LIVE: Adam: Why is it Melbourne?
AOL LIVE: Paul has a shocked look on his
AOL LIVE: face.
AOL LIVE: Paul doesn't know what to say.
AOL LIVE: He looks like a deer in
AOL LIVE: headlights.
AOL LIVE: Paul: I just really like that
AOL LIVE: city.
AOL LIVE: It's a great city.
AOL LIVE: It's a wonderful place.
AOL LIVE: Adam: This whole wacky planet is
AOL LIVE: a wonderful place, but we have a
AOL LIVE: lot of fun in Australia.
AOL LIVE: Host: Sounds like a secret of
AOL LIVE: sorts.
AOL LIVE: Let's see.
AOL LIVE: This next question we have here
AOL LIVE: -- Rob: Are you ok?
AOL LIVE: Host: It's all good.
AOL LIVE: Someone is asking, their screen
AOL LIVE: name is m box 20 mb.
AOL LIVE: Why wasn't heavy on the new
AOL LIVE: album?
AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: Ooh!
AOL LIVE: Rob: I think that's a good
AOL LIVE: question.
AOL LIVE: We never thought about it.
AOL LIVE: I like that song.
AOL LIVE: We worked it up for a couple of
AOL LIVE: times live.
AOL LIVE: We worked it up for a couple of
AOL LIVE: times live because it was
AOL LIVE: something we worked up in sound
AOL LIVE: checks and started in sound
AOL LIVE: checks, and we never got around
AOL LIVE: to it.
AOL LIVE: Host: And this is another
AOL LIVE: followup one from m box 20 mb.
AOL LIVE: What do you think of mb 3
AOL LIVE: trading and all this free music
AOL LIVE: on the internet?
AOL LIVE: Adam: It's a really strange deal
AOL LIVE: to really talk about this too
AOL LIVE: much.
AOL LIVE: If one aspect, it's an illegal
AOL LIVE: process that's going on.
AOL LIVE: It's about distributing
AOL LIVE: copyrighted music which is
AOL LIVE: against the law.
AOL LIVE: In that respect, I mean, unless
AOL LIVE: that thing was legal, I really
AOL LIVE: don't know if I could support
AOL LIVE: it.
AOL LIVE: It's sad because that would be a
AOL LIVE: way that maybe local bands or
AOL LIVE: people can get turned on to
AOL LIVE: different kinds of music that
AOL LIVE: maybe aren't copyrighted.
AOL LIVE: And maybe that's the way it
AOL LIVE: should go.
AOL LIVE: It's really not going to kill us
AOL LIVE: and it's not going to attack our
AOL LIVE: pockets dearly, but at the same
AOL LIVE: point, it's something that is
AOL LIVE: pretty much against the law.
AOL LIVE: It kind of sucks.
AOL LIVE: Paul: I think -- Adam is a
AOL LIVE: politician.
AOL LIVE: I think that napster is a
AOL LIVE: wonderful technology that came
AOL LIVE: way too early and none of us are
AOL LIVE: ready for it yet.
AOL LIVE: Until they came up with laws
AOL LIVE: that would save people who don't
AOL LIVE: sell a lot of records and need
AOL LIVE: what they do-do to survive, they
AOL LIVE: would -- Adam: Paul said do-do.
AOL LIVE: Host: We have a couple more
AOL LIVE: questions for you.
AOL LIVE: We'll ask you for closing
AOL LIVE: comments.
AOL LIVE: Jim hammer 3727 asks, what are
AOL LIVE: you guys going to do next?
AOL LIVE: I guess he means your plans are.
AOL LIVE: Rob: We're going back to the
AOL LIVE: hotel.
AOL LIVE: We're going to play.
AOL LIVE: That's our whole job now is just
AOL LIVE: to play.
AOL LIVE: It's the easy part now.
AOL LIVE: We're going to play and travel
AOL LIVE: and go somewhere else and play,
AOL LIVE: then get on a plane and go
AOL LIVE: somewhere else and play some
AOL LIVE: more.
AOL LIVE: Adam: When we're done, we're
AOL LIVE: going to probably play again.
AOL LIVE: Rob: Paul?
AOL LIVE: Adam: Paul remains silent.
AOL LIVE: Host: How did all you guys meet?
AOL LIVE: Paul: We met in prison.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I think we met in the
AOL LIVE: lobby like four hours ago and
AOL LIVE: got in a car and came over to
AOL LIVE: the chat.
AOL LIVE: Rob: You know, we're doing the
AOL LIVE: Hollywood squares thing again.
AOL LIVE: I've known Paul -- I met Paul
AOL LIVE: when he answered an ad for a
AOL LIVE: band I was in before.
OL LIVE: Paul: Like seven or eight years
AOL LIVE: ago.
AOL LIVE: Rob: We were in that band for a
AOL LIVE: while.
AOL LIVE: We met Adam because we were
AOL LIVE: looking for a guitar player.
AOL LIVE: We were all paid from music, out
AOL LIVE: of the ashes of music.
AOL LIVE: Adam: I was looking to stop
AOL LIVE: answering phones and I was very
AOL LIVE: happy that the band stumbled
AOL LIVE: upon me.
AOL LIVE: I couldn't think of anything
AOL LIVE: else to say.
AOL LIVE: This is politicaly correct
AOL LIVE: saying, none of us have really
AOL LIVE: served hard time.
AOL LIVE: Host: The next question is from
AOL LIVE: rocky raccoon.
AOL LIVE: matchbox twenty: Good name!
AOL LIVE: Host: They are saying, hey, and
AOL LIVE: they want you to do a shout out
AOL LIVE: to the U.K.
AOL LIVE: They stayed up late to be on the
AOL LIVE: chat.
AOL LIVE: Paul: Anyone with a Beatles
AOL LIVE: reference name is kick-ass.
AOL LIVE: Rob: This is Rob giving a shout
AOL LIVE: out to the U.K. and thanks for
AOL LIVE: staying up.
AOL LIVE: Adam: We'll be seeing the U.K.
AOL LIVE: really soon and look forward to
AOL LIVE: coming over there and causing
AOL LIVE: trouble.
AOL LIVE: Host: This is from icey punk
AOL LIVE: nostalgia.
