The McQueen Family Homepage!

Family History: Hi! We are the McQueen Family--Rick, Melissa, Ricky, and Amanda. This is our most recent family photo, taken for Christmas 2000. We (Rick and I) got married on May 5, 1995. If you'd like to read about that experience, click here ! Ricky was born on May 23, 1997, and Amanda joined our family on August 16, 1999. Rick is a production team member at an automobile manufacturing company and Melissa will be beginning law school in the fall. Ricky stays busy "cooking," "shopping," and helping with the yard work. Amanda makes her opinion known about things too. She is talking up a storm! If you ask her if she is smart/pretty, she will immediately grin and shake her head yes--so cute to watch! She also loves to dance, and Ricky is in to playing air guitar! Here is a picture of the two kids for Christmas:

Latest News From the Homefront...

July We recently returned from our family vacation. This year's trip was to Hilton Head, SC. We weren't too impressed with the beach there (small waves, murky water, no shells), and we were a little concerned about going in the water since we found out the day before we left for our trip that two people had been bitten by sharks there within the past month. Anyway, we did manage to keep ourselves busy seeing other sites... Monday we took a dolphin watching cruise, and we did see about 10 dolhpins. Seems the dolphins are friendly little critters that like to follow the small boats in the inlets. Tuesday we drove down to Skidaway Island (Savannah, GA) to visit the aquarium there. We saw a loggerhead turtle, a nurse shark, a gar, some stingrays and countless other fish. The kids really liked this one. Wednesday, we went through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve in Hilton Head. This is just miles and miles of trail through swampy area and forest where animals are in their natural habitat and there are no gates or fences and no rangers to help you out either. We knew there were alligators out there, and we kind of hoped to see one. We did see three of them out on a lake and one started swimming towards our side. He came within 25 feet of us, but we weren't scared because he was down an embankment and we were in no immediate danger. We decided to leave since we had hiked probably 5 or 6 miles, and a lot of that was carrying the kids. We passed a sign that said if you see an alligator, you should stay at least 100 feet from it. We thought that was a fine time to see the sign! We got to probably less than a half mile from the car when we really got a scare. The trail back to the car wound along beside a lagoon at trail level. We kept a wary eye out in case any gators were in this lagoon. Suddenly, Rick spotted one lurking in the water near the edge of the trail. He was less than 10 feet from us and we were freaked! There was absolutely no one else around and we had no weapon, and the sea pine trees are impossible to climb. So we had to walk by and hope he didn't try anything (or we would be hurting!). Rick carried Ricky and I carried Amanda and we inched by the gator, who just stared at us the whole time. Lucky for us, he apparently wasn't up for games! We both agreed later that we got way more than we bargained for on our gator hunt! We took some pictures, and they will be posted shortly... (p.s. although we took some pictures of alligators, don't expect to see the last one we met--we were too scared to event think of taking a picture!)

May I am officially a college grad now! I graduated May 6 from the University of Kentucky with my Bachelor of Business Administration in Management with a double major in Marketing. I also received Departmental Honors from the Management & Marketing departments. I had my Senior pictures taken, if you'd like to see them, click here . (There's also a sound file from Manda on this page--something she exclaims every time she sees these pictures) :) I will post pictures from graduation when they come back, but in the meantime I am looking forward to settling in the new house this summer before beginning law school...

April I was awarded an Otis A. Singletary Fellowship on April 16th at UK's Honors & Awards Ceremony. I was very excited because it covers two years of law school, so it helps to relieve that burden!

Ricky turned 4 on Wednesday, May 23rd. It's hard to believe four years have already gone by! We will be getting his picture taken soon, so in the meantime you'll just have to deal with the outdated one! :) We had a lemon cake for his birthday, and his party was held at Grandpa & Grandma Racecar's house. As soon as pictures are in I will post them here. To read about his 3rd birthday party and view some pictures, check out Ricky's birthday page . If you'd like to read about his birth, click here . Here is his "official" three-year-old picture:

Amanda is 1 year old now--where does the time go? She walks everywhere now, occasionally runs, and climbs everything--including onto the kitchen table! She is saying a few new words, like "hi" and "bye" and when she says bye she says it with quite the southern drawl--so cute! She has also taken to being very aggressive! I tried to warn Ricky when he began picking on her but he wouldn't listen... ;) To see some pictures of her when she was a newborn, click here .
