| LAUTER LOG This section is a sort of diary of shows and stuff that's going on that is not really relevant, but may be interesting for some people. I got the idea from Gone Mad's web site. They are on tour and write a few paragraphs a week to let their fans know what's going on. I thought it was cool. This will probably be boring unless you know us.
May 26th- I'm stuck at the cottage for a few days working at Abracadabra. Luckily, my dad left me with the laptop and I have a chance to work on the site. LT has been recording and we have burned a few CDs for our own personal evaluation. We're getting ready for a big party this weekend - Memorial Day. We're going to get loaded and play songs by the campfire. Hopefully we can spend some more time recording in Neil's basement next week. I have some great ideas about how to record the drums. God I hope this shit turns out.
August 3rd For Fuck's sake! It's about time I had a chance to work on the site. We jammed at MUG WUMP Saturday. It was a really cool party. Almost all of my gear crapped out but it turned out alright.
August 6th- Ok. Now I have some time for a proper entry. As I said before, we played MUG WUMP last Saturday. What a great time. For those of you who don't know, MUG WUMP is a three day party that started 30 years ago including all you can eat and drink for $20! This guy, Bob, throws it every year in his five acre backyard where there is a permanent stage set up and a campground. To make a long story long, we arived at 3:00pm. The campground was about half filled with people still stumbling from the night before. As a last minute addition, we were set to play first. LT took the stage at 6:00. Neil, Brian, and Frank were great. I, on the other hand, well, let's just say that pretty much everything that could fuck up with my gear -- did. It turned out OK though and after the first two songs we wereinto the groove. Then, probably the strangest thing that has ever happened to us on stage happened. This old, smelly, torn shirt, beer smelling hippy walks onstage and asks us to play something he can blow harp to. So we bust into Earache my Eye, the C+C song. So, we're playing and he starts blowing the harmonica with all the agility of a two year old monkey. It sounded terrible! So he turns to me and says -- this is in the wrong key, can you change it to E?-- Holy shit did I want to kill him! After that the set was cool. The crowd really dug us and by the end of the set, they started a "ONE MORE SONG" chant. But we had to make way for Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters so we hauled off stage. The party turned really cool as the night progressed. We met this dude that we had seen five years previously at a Dead show who had the same home-made PA set up. We jamed on the old songs all night. We finally made it home around 8:00am.
August 11th Well, it looks like Shedfest will be postponed until the second weekend of September. It's OK because we want to make it as good as we can. As it stood for the 14th, Premium and Faroutofme could not make it. Since they are both good bands and good friends, we feel that it would be in the bestr interest of all if it's postponed. We just found out that we've been booked at O'Malley's on Sept 3rd. Also, we're all so jazzed about THE BASH. I hope everyone can come out even if 12:30pm is a little early. This weekend we're going to the cottage so that means -- ACOUSTIC JAMS!! My favorite.
August 12th Guess what I got. Nikki bought me a new sound card for my birthday! Hell yeah.
August 22nd We saw PREMIUM at the Double Door on Wedesday. They were great as usual. I think those guys will be the next band to get signed out of Chicago. Hopefully, if we ever get our asses in gear, maybe we could too. We have been working on a press kit. So far we have a few pics that are ok. I never thought it would be so hard to get four guys to take a serious picture. We found out that the bash was canceled. God what a pisser. That's OK. The O'malley's show is gonna be titties. I have a feeling everyone is coming out. September 13th Well shit, I was right. Thatnks to everyone who came out. The O'Malleys show was cool as hell. We went on at 11 PM and had a great time. The sound was good and the lighting there is sweet. Brian almost broke his leg during the final song -- guess what it was. They're having us back on October 16th and hopefully we can bring PREMIUM in as well. Dina Damato called me last night to book a show with Relative Ash on October 30th which should be awesome. I'll be in England from Sept 23rd through Oct 7th but will continueally update the site from there. October 6th Greetings from the UK Ok Here I am in London and it is awesome. We've seen just about everything, or at least the touristy stuff and have also been to some really cool nightclubs. The scene out here is really different. I guess I will write more later. I just wanted to update the show date -- 15th, not 16th -- before the fellas freak. Later. November 9th Man, I don't know what I've been doing lately to make me neglect the Lauter Log like this. To be honest, the band had a little, how shall I say, hiatus -- if that's how you spell it. We didn't have a lot of time to play together in October. We did a show at O'malleys that was pretty cool but the whole Halloween shit really disapointed us. The good news is that we're back in the swing now and have been working on new shit. We've also had a chance to finish the three song demo which most of you probably thought was a myth. Well, we're done and it sounds pretty fat. Mike Brown taught me this cool trick where you pan the guitar a certain way and it really creates space in the stereo field. I also finished a press kit that looks almost professional so I think we can expect some good venues coming up. Before I go -- come out this weekend and we'll play NUNSOUP, the new jam. Peace. November 17th Recording is done -- Time to break out the jam. Wasup? We played the Waterloo last Friday with thirdleg. First of all, we want to thank thirdleg for having us. It was a cool place -- although, I'm not too sure the thirdleg crowd dug us that much. It was still cool. We went on at 10:15 and played about a 45 min set. We even broke in the new song, "NUNSOUP". It's a total jam. Thirdleg started their first set at 11:30 and played until close, tking only one 15 min break. Thy were really tiht and the crowd loved them. We will be playing together again at O'malleys on the day before thanksgiving. Later. February 16th, 2000 Getting our shit mastered, finally. What have we been doing? Well, I guess, collectively, LT has been hibernating. We played a few shows, but haven't jammed in the basement in a long time. I've been down in the tape alot lately. Hopefully no one will be disapointed with the fruits of duktape studio. Neil and I are actually going today to have it mastered. For anyone who doesn't know, thats when you take a mixed version of your recording in and the mastering engineer equalizes everything and normalizes the levels. Some bands don't think it's necessary. Thats why many demos sound thin. I say, fuck it. So, we should have them dupped soon. Tomorrow night we play Thurstons. Frank is in San Antonio TX, so it'll just be us three. You will be missed my friend. OK that's all for now.
November 11th, 2000- Mike from Chinese Downhill has been giving me shit for not doing the Lauter Log lately so I guess I'll appease him. We played last night at the Charybdis multi-arts complex. It looked awesome in there. The guy who runs it decided to call this event "Halloween in November" and have another costume party. The place would have been great if more people were there. It's like, he spent so much time and money decorating and didn't promote it. Other than the small crowd, it was cool. We had some technical dificulties while we were on stage. basically, their PA couldn't handle our masssive sound. At least that's what we'd like to believe. At any rate, it totally cut out so no one could hear frank or my vocals. Tonight we play Thurstons with Chinese Downhill. It should be fun. I miss playing at Thurstons. Some of the finest rats in the city live there. |
