About the Band

LAUTER TUN began in 1993 when Brian, Neil, and Jerry started jamming together in Brian's garage. They had started a high school cover band with Brian's brother, Tim, called Giant Midgets. Because Tim was very involved with theatre, he missed most practices leaving the other band members time to jam out on instramentals. They continued to play together after Tim left for college and ended up taking their music in an entirely new direction.

Their influences shifted away from the popular mainstream and into deeper and more heavy music. Because they were used to writting instrumentals, their music tended to be very complicated, often involving alternate tuning, complicated time signature shifts, and strange playing techniques and digital effects.  After auditioning a handful of singers, none of whom quite fit, Jerry and Brian began to fill in vocal parts which eventually led to a permanent arrangement.

The band continued writting songs and playing out, but mostly jamming in Jerry's basement. In 1996 they recorded and eight song CD. This allowed them to continue scoring better gigs and to develop a following. In 1998, ready to return to the studio, they agreed to instead purchase their own recording equipment. This increased their tendancy to procrastinate, but has yielded some really cool sounds.

While playing a halloween party in 1998, DJ Dirty Frank threw some scratches in and the band thought it was killer. Since then, Frank has continued jamming with the band and has played an important part in both the live shows and in songwritting.
