Samuel Adams

American Patriot & Politician

1722 - 1803

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Hot Issues From Linn County Iowa
Wednesday, 18 November 2015
¡No Pasarán!

"They shall NOT PASS!"

This seems to be the battle cry of the Linn County Republican Central Committee Secretary in his continuous contest to combat Democratic infiltration of the Linn County Republican Central Committee.

Also, he combats what he calls "negativity," or what some of us think of as "speaking truth to power."

In his own words, he stated:

All of the negative attacks are veiled opinions and oblique comments. The author claims an Executive violated the LCRCC Constitution, but he criticized the Executives because they deemed it important to follow the Constitution and verify that new members are currently registered Republicans before voting them in as members. So when you see it to your advantage its OK to violate the Consitution.

I call that selective reasoning.

The continual spewing of negativism is demenaing to all of the volunteers who show up every month. It ignores the contribution of those volunteers working in the LCRCC Teams.

Maybe I should not be so veiled and oblique?

Okay!

The Linn County Republican Party's Constitution says:

The Executive Committee is subject to the orders of the Linn County Central Committee, and none of its acts shall conflict with actions of the Linn County Central Committee.

Some time back the Committee voted to reward volunteers for hard work in the 2014 Victory Office.

The Chair, Cindy Golding, REFUSED to honor that commitment.

The Treasurer at the time, Jim Conklin, had to get the Co-Chair at the time to sign the checks Mrs. Golding refused to sign.

After Mr Conklin was bullied to step aside while issues with a state agency were addressed, the Chair, Mrs. Golding, and the Interim Treasurer did not honor the debts the Central Committee had committed us to, AND they did not handle the records, as was their duty.

So the last person who had EARNED a monetary award from the Committee for all of his hard work never received his reward from the Chair, Cindy Golding, and the Interim Treasurer.

Instead, another member and I chipped in and made the young man's reward whole.

I hope that is not too "veiled and oblique" for Mr Ellis.

Now, as for:

"...but he criticized the Executives because they deemed it important to follow the Constitution and verify that new members are currently registered Republicans before voting them in as members..."

In the past, the call for new members has been at the end of the meeting.

But, our committee leadership and their supporters seem to be more intrested in keeping to their adjournment time at 8:30 PM instead of taking care of the business of the Committee.

They can wax SO poetic about why we cannot go past 8:30, and ALWAYS ask the body to vote against it.

UNLESS, that is, there is something that THEY want to see addressed.

In that case, they are eager to extend the meeting.

And we, on the other side?

NOT being hypocrites, we vote to do so.

That situation is the reason why one person, for instance, had to wait six months to join.

So last meeting, there was NOTHING to vote on after the new members were presented.

But Mr Ellis had a hissy fit about going ahead and voting them in.

EVEN a person who had her VOTER ID CARD on her.

Since she drove to the meeting, it is most probable that she also had a drivers license.

I certainly hope Mr. Ellis never has the deciding say in any regular elections.

Can you just picture it?

So, you have a government-issued color photo ID, AND a voter registration card?

Still not good enough for "They Shall Not Pass" Ellis!

Not until he checks himself.

Robert Heinlein once said:

 Robert A. Heinlein

“Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.

"Sometime back the Committee voted to reward volunteers for hard work in the 2014 Victory Office."

How come you didn't add the predicate that the Victory Office Manager would provide documentation for determining the rewards? Are you suggesting that the requirement of the body to receive documentation before payment is made should have been ignored??? Was it ignored?

"After Mr Conklin was bullied to step aside while issues with a state agency were addressed, the Chair, Mrs. Golding, and the Interim Treasurer did not honor the debts the Central Committee had committed us to, AND they did not handle the records, as was their duty."

The January 21, 2015 letter from the Director of the IECDB states as follows,"I directed Jason Hacker, the Board’s auditor for state PACs and county central committees, to audit LCRCC’s reports for the above time period.  He found 13 missing report entries, 2 double entries, 25 contributions where the contributor’s name was incorrectly listed (often spouse who did not sign the check), 14 contributions reported with incorrect amounts, and 2 reverse entries that were not reported correctly.  Jason and I conveyed our findings to you in a letter dated December 9, 2014 and I. ..... Rather, it appears the inaccuracies were due to sloppy bookkeeping.  I think all or most of these errors would have been avoided had the bank statements been reconciled with the checking account register and data entered in the Board’s web reporting system prior to the filing of the disclosure reports."

Note that these errors are all inaddition to the multiple errors reported to the IECDB by the LCRCC which brought about Mr. Conklin's voluntarily stepping down.

I have heard the argument that we have always done it this way BUT that doesn't excuse the fact that the errors repeatedly violate the Iowa Code. Nor does it align with the expectation from the IECDB that the LCRCC correct all of the errors.

"In the past, the call for new members has been at the end of the meeting." Notice the answer is vague, "past".

Well the practice has changed in 2015. In the last several meetings new members were voted in at the beginning of the monthly meetings.

"So, you have a government-issued color photo ID, AND a voter registration card?"

During the City election I processed many voter registration changes as a Solution Table Election Official. Many of the voters were carrying voter registration cards which were out of date. Linn County provides the Solution Table Official's with computers or tablets where you can verify a voters status and have them fill out the legally required paperwork to correct the changes prior to handing them a ballot.

So, yes I am a proud volunteer election official for Linn County. I am also promoting the idea that more Republicans should sign up to be Linn County Election Official's to help ensure that the voting laws and requirements are followed to the letter.

"The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. "

The officers and the Executive Committee's first interest is to support the Linn County Republican Central Committee and its members in a positive, forward looking and proactive basis. I believe I can speak for the entire team and say that all of us as volunteers are working hard to move the organization beyond the past and its divisive turmoil.

Gary, is this what you do all day? Troll the internet  and post a bunch of garbage?

Maybe if you spent less time trying to remove me from the Membership Team and less time writing hundreds of e-mails to people who don't want to talk to you, then this committee would be slightly more functional.

You know, we didn't have nearly as much strife in the committee before you started attending.

Justin, I am concerned with the misinformation and vilification of the volunteers at the Linn County Republican Central Committee. The uncivil and disrespectful behavior and lack of cooperation is a serious problem that has apparently gone on for some time. Twisting information and finger pointing is a recipe for failure.

I respond to phone calls and emails I receive. I listen to others ideas and do my best to make progress and improvements at the central committee. I volunteered to make a difference and I donate many hours every month to supporting the body.

I'm willing to meet, discuss and exchange your ideas on how we can better support the central committee.

Disrespectful behavior and lack of cooperation has been your forte, Gary. Every time the Membership Team has met and assembled a plan to move forward you have stopped us. Just like when you wanted to work around the team to create a different charter than the one the team voted on. Just like when you tried removing me as chair of the team, TWICE. Just like when you've antagonized the team's volunteers to the point of where they decide it's better to quit the team than try to work with you.

The Membership team has lost 3 great volunteers because of your constant interference and divissiveness. If you want to help the LCRCC then my advice to you would be this: Leave.

I have the interests of the LCRCC as my first priority. I am willing to work with every volunteer in the body. I'm not into accusations or name-calling. That's why I have notified you of membership actions I have taken in supporting new membership at the monthly meetings.

As Secretary I have asked to have a part in discussing a description of what the Membership and Meeting Setup Team does to support the role of the Secretary as described in Roberts Rules of Order. I've not been notified of a meeting for a few months.

I invite you to conduct a cooperative team effort in supporting the needs of the body in credentialing members. We have a couple of months to get ready for the 2016 Caucus which will require the efforts of all the LCRCC's dedicated members. Credentialing is a skill needed to support ensuring proper registration of caucus and convention attendees.

I am ready to work together to support the needs of the LCRCC. I am helping the Caucus Team gather a list of volunteers for the caucus, I welcome anyone who is interested in supporting the body in preparing for the caucus and the convention.
