Samuel Adams

American Patriot & Politician

1722 - 1803

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Balance Of Power

At the last Linn County Republican Central Committee meeting we were introduced to a New Paradigm.

Or, at least, something happened that had never happened before.

Six people presented themselves to be added to the Committee as members.

And the reaction of our leadership was.

Not yet.

In the past, they have always been accepted.

But, as we have come to expect, our present leadership does things the way THEY want.

Their rationale was, "OMG, we cannot add anyone as a member until WE check to see if they are really Republicans!"

It didn't matter that one of them had been waiting 6 months to join;

Or that another one actually had their Voter ID card on them and pulled it out.

Nope, the Secretary, the Chair and the bulk of the Executive Committee would not be shaken from their sacred duty to ensure that we did not add anyone to the Central Committee who was not register as a Republican.

So they will have to wait until our Secretary gets around to verifying that.

I decided not to confuse the Executives and the Secretary by pointing out that there was no assurance that any of the present members had not changed their registration since the last meeting.

I mean, if they started thinking about that, no one would be allowed to vote!

You might have noticed I mentioned that one person had waited 6 months to join.

That is because the Chair and her supporters have, for most of the meetings, insisted on adjourning before the "Add New Members" item on the agenda came up.l

They have been very adamant  about ending the meetings at 8:30.

It does not matter to them if there is work for the Committee left undone.

Well, it doesn't matter to them if there is work left undone that OTHER people care about.

They will insist on adjourning.

If an attempt is made to alter the agenda to remove the 8:30 deadline, it often fails with one of those 22 to 21 Votes.

However, if there is something left undone that THEY want to do?

That is another story.

In that case, they will entertain a motion to extend the meeting, and the rest of us, not being hypocrites, will vote to do so.

And THEY keep accusing US of not being willing to work together?

 So this person showed up for 6 months waiting for our leadership and their supporters to allow a meeting to last long enough for new members to be presented;

Only to be told to "come back next month."

I mean, they really know how to recruit volunteers, don't they?

Yes, we have now a New Paradigm. Forget Moving Forward.

Of course, the reason might be just a matter of political manuevering.

Recall, if you will, that sometimes what the Committee decides to do is decided by votes on the order of 22 to 21.

Six new members might alter the Balance of Power.

So maybe they are trying to stonewall until the new bylaw changes go into effect.

And unless the new member is filling a vacancy in a precinct,

They will have NO VOTE.

Not one person who expressed their interest to join at a monthly meeting or reported their interest to the Secretary has waited more than one month.

You should credit to the Membership and Meeting Setup Team for having reviewed the membership list against the Linn County Auditors current list of registered Republicans.  Obviously it takes work to do that very often but it was done recently.

Your previous blogs profusely discuss the requirement to follow the Iowa Code, the RPI and Linn County Constitutions and the LCRCC Bylaws.

The Linn County Republican Constitution states, "When elected, a member of the County Central Committee must be a resident of the precinct from which elected."

Mr. Dahlsten noted at the October meeting that there have been past incidents where some tried to pack the central committee by bringing in people to vote on the night of an election.

You should also note that for a Special Nominating Election RPI will not allow the credentialing of people who were improperly elected.

So it is the duty of the LCRCC and the leadership team to follow these requirements. Verification of current registration via the Linn County Election Portal is an important step in qualifiying new members.

As past Secretary,  we as the LRCCC body always voted on those people whom wanted to join the LRCCC as members, usually towards the end off the meeting. They became members with privileges starting at the next LCRCC meeting. Helping Justin check people in at the meeting,  I personally know the people in question, whom wanted to become members of the LRCCC but before that portion of the meeting occurred per the approved meeting agenda,  the meeting is adjourned because it is 8:30pm. This had happened at past few LCRCC meetings therefore that is why the one person took 6 months to get voted in. I tried to get the members in question plus a person to represent CR 19 at October's LRCCC meeting but that effort failed. That is when I found out that the Executive Board made a executive decision that before anyone could be voted in to become members they had to be 'vetted' to make sure they are registered Republicans & then they would be voted on at the next LCRCC meeting if we get to that part on the agenda.  This apparent new policy was not voted on at any LCRCC meeting in the past several months.

In the past we had a great system in which the Secretary worked for the members of the LRCCC body by providing quality minutes that were partisan, accurate, easy to read, follow & understand;  worked with the Credential Team (now called the Membership team as it was changed back several months ago when the New Executive Board dismantled everything & disfranchised many of our hard working volunteers) in getting to know all the members of the LRCCC as well as actively recruit representatives for those precincts whom seemed to have no representation at the LRCCC meetings; as well as work with many of the other committees (many no longer exists or were changed per the Executive Board several months ago.)

As past Secretary it was my honor to serve the LRCCC with integrity, honesty,    unselfishness, standing up for the underdogs ( not easy in the LCRCC atmosphere today as the voice of the LRCCC body does not have the voice it once did especially the past several months), helping the LRCCC members when they needed help ( again with some people that is very very difficult especially when I tried to help the current Secretary so the transition would go smoothly but he is one of the few people I have ever met that my help fell into a black hole as it appeared he knew more than I on the subject).

Like the saying says in the poem 'Anyway' by Kent M. Keith - What you spend years building something it may be destroyed overnight is so true for the system that was built (started with nothing) in the last 4 years for the role of Secretary for the LRCCC was destroyed in less than a few months- that was painful to watch, as shown by  the lack of quality in the minutes presented at the LCRCC meeting and other evidence presented by the current Secretary.

Other sayings in this poem have been proven so true especially in the last year for me being Secretary as well as when I speak out at the LRCCC monthly meetings:

-If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies - I learned this the hard way in my last year as Secretary when I was 'thrown under the bus' at some of the LRCCC meetings & most recently when I spoke up about the quality of the meeting minutes as well as other issues.

-People really need help but may attack you if you do help them - I learned this one again recently from nasty emails that I received from some members of the Executive Board. But no matter how nasty their emails are or comments I get I will still help People.

-People are illogical, unreasonable,  and self-centered - I have been learning this one the hard way every time I attend the LRCCC meeting as the meetings are pretty run as a 'dictatorship' as the leadership is really not doing what the LRCCC body wants as evidence of the planning of the upcoming Caucuses which many do not want to go downtown to have their caucus but what they want does not matter. I will continue to attend for evil to prevail is for good people like myself to stop coming & to stop fighting for the underdogs - Not going to happen on my watch!!.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. - This is so true especially my last year as LCRCC Secretary and when I speak at LCRCC meetings.  But I will continue to speak out for the underdogs as well as do what is right.
