My Favourite Books

  1. Venus in Furs, by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. My favourite book because its very erotic and I can indentify with the main character. Although erotic, its not pornographic. The Velvet Underground has an excellent song about this book (which was why I read it in the first place.)

  2. Catcher in the Rye, by JD Salinger. This book is about about the internal struggle of a high school aged boy. I love the book because I identify with him so well. In fact, someone even wrote in my yearbook that I reminded him of the main character, and I thought that was purdy neat.

  3. Lost Souls, by Poppy Z. Brite. Bisexual vampire porn. Mmm. I like this because Poppy is so very descriptive and all, and most of the characters are well developed. Don't read this if you're offended by sex, violence, or drug use.

  4. 1984, by George Orwell, A Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, and We by Eugene(this is the anglicized version of his russian name which I forgot) Zamyatin. I group these three together because they all deal with utopian (or dystopian, depending on your point of view) societies. They each have their odd little quirks. 1984 and We have quite a few similarities. If you read one of these and don't like it, I wouldn't suggest reading the others. I wrote my English term paper comparing the three.

  5. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. A comical science fiction book. Ahem. Its funny as hell. There are 4 books in the series after this that are also quite good, but the first is the best.

  6. A Clockwork Orange, by, umm...I can't recall his name. Anyway, this book about a boy who rapes, beats, murders, steals, and listens to classical music. It's rather graphic and somewhat sickening, but all in all an excellent read. If reading isn't your thing, Stanley Kubrik (may he rest in peace) made a great movie of it.

  7. Slaughterhouse V, by Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut has a unique writing style....very blunt, and laden with "black humour". Often his books seem kinda pointless unless you look deep into it, but they're interesting to read even if you don't see the point. Very strange book. Makes you think, makes you laugh.
