”How sad in deed it was when the death angel came into our home on May 6, 1935, and took from us our husband and father, Charles Garland. He was born in Clay county May 31, 1886, being 48 years, 11 months and 25 days old. He was the son of the late Rev. J. H. Garland. He joined the United Baptist church at East Salem Dec. 17, 1905, later moving his membership by letter to New Bethel church Saturday, Feb. 4, 1913. He
lived a true, devoted life was steadfast in the faith, always willing to do what he could do for the church and community. To say he is missed is in deed true; he is missed in the home, in the church and in the lodge and community. He was a faithful husband, kind
father and a good neighbor, and his passing is mourned by many. We miss him by the fireside, We see his vacant chair, We miss him at the table, We miss him everywhere. Written by the family.”
