Stigmata

 BASIC R.C.BELIEF

Wounds or scars on an individual corresponding to the wounds of Jesus. One with these wounds is called a stigmatic, or stigmatist. The Church has ruled in only three cases that the stigmata was supernatural, but a stigmatist is supposed to be very holy.

Stigmatists include St. Francis of Assisi, a young girl named Louise Lateau, who died in Belgium in 1883, and Padre Pio.

CHRISTIAN COMMENT

Since there is no scripture that authorizes or shows the need for stigmata, we conclude that this phenomenon is psychologically or satanically induced.
