Sacraments in the New Catholic Catechism |
|
(SeeBaptism) Bill Jackson's comments in ( ) p.5 - "Christ is always present in his Church, especially in the sacraments." (The sacraments are said to be steps toward eternal life; Christ Himself has paid the entire redemption price by His sacrifice on the cross.) p.8 #6 "celebration of the sacraments " (Even "modern" Roman Catholicism has sacramental salvation.) p. 108 #430 "Since God alone can forgive sins" (Yet even the modern Rite of Reconciliation has the priest saying, "God forgives you AND I FORGIVE YOU.") p. 209 #790 "Believers. . . through the sacraments are united. . .to Christ." p. 215 #815 "The unity of the. . .Church is assured by. . .a profession of one faith received from the Apostles...a common celebration...of the sacraments. (These two "proofs" contradict one another, since there is no record of the Apostles performing any sacraments.) p. 215 #815 "apostolic succession through the sacrament of Holy Orders, maintaining the fraternal concord of God's family." (Holy Orders is never mentioned or used in apostolic times. [A recent meeting of Roman Catholic theologians claimed that the statement from the Vatican II document LUMEN GENTIUM, "Because their divine mission was destined to last until the end of time, the apostles were careful to appoint successors to this hierarchically constituted society" is "a simplistic notion that should be dropped for the sake of church unity." Cardinal William Baum from Washington, D.C. strongly objected and said that Apostolic Succession was necessary for church unity. The theologians claimed that there is no New Testament evidence that the original Apostles ordained a single bishop to be a church leader in a given geographical location.]) p. 236 #893. "The bishop and priests sanctify the Church by their prayer and work, by their ministry of the word and of the sacraments. . . Thus. . .they may attain to eternal life." (We so often run across verbs like "attain" when speaking of eternal life. Romans 6:23 says the gift of God is eternal life. The Roman Catholic Catechism The Teaching of Christ [page 35] says, "God's gift was not to be only the blessed life of heaven, but the further gift of letting men gain blessedness as a merited reward.") p. 255 #980. "The sacrament of Penance is necessary for salvation for those who have fallen after Baptism, just as Baptism is necessary for salvation for those who have not yet been reborn." p. 256 #982. "There is no offense, however serious, that the Church cannot forgive." p. 256 #983. "Were there no forgiveness in the Church, there would be no hope of life to come or eternal liberation. Let us thank God who has given his Church such a gift." p. 282 #1084. "The sacraments are perceptible signs [words and actions] accessible to our human nature." (But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor 2:14).) p. 367 #1461. "Indeed bishops and priests, by virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, have the power to forgive all sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." |
