Adopted by the 63d General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Orchard Park, NY August 5-10, 1999

Apostasy and the Presbyterian Church (USA)

The Presbyterian Church in the United States of America recently concluded its 211th General Assembly. During this General Assembly, a person supporting the ordination of practicing homosexuals was elected moderator; an ordained lesbian activist, Jane Spahr, was presented one of the PCUSA's Women of Faith Awards (during the presentation of said award the newly-elected moderator, Freda Gardner, stated, "I am proud to be sharing this place with the recipients of this award"), and funding for the controversial National Network of Presbyterian College Women was INCREASED (emphasis added). Despite the fact that the National Network has promoted Re-imagining God ideology, homosexuality, fornication, and opposition to requiring PCUSA ministers to maintain fidelity within marriage or chastity outside of marriage, the General Assemblv. voted 344-178 to increase funding with new oversight theologically and administratively over the organization by the General Assembly. The NNPCW should have little to worry about.

How the Presbvterian Layman on June 5, 1999, can consider a General Assembly vote of 319-198 to maintain the "fidelity and chastity" provision in the denomination's Book of Order a positive step, when that vote shows that over 37% of the General Assembly delegates oppose requiring fidelity within marriage or chastity outside of marriage, is hard to comprehend. Where are the charges that should be filed against those who support positions contrary to God's holy, infallible Word? It is no wonder that it was reported that the issue will not go away. Ruling and teaching elders are not instituting disciplinary procedures against those promoting life styles contrary to the inerrant Word of God.

We, the 63d General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Orchard Park, New York, August 5-10, 1999, call upon those within the PCUSA who wish to honor and uphold the Word of God (clergy and laity alike) to obey the command to separate (2 Corinthians 6:14 - 7:1) and to 'join others who adhere to the Scriptures and who maintain the Westminster Confession of Faith.

"Cordial" Relations Between Presbyterian Church in America and Presbyterian Church (USA)

The 27th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), meeting in Louisville, KY, June 1999, issued its first news release under the title "General Assembly Brings Presbyterian Denominations Together in Louisville." This is a reference to Louisville being the headquarters of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The statement reports that "PCA Stated Clerk (top administrator) Dr. L. Roy Taylor [paid] a courtesy call on his counterpart, Clifton Kirkpatrick, prior to the General Assembly."

The only hint in the statement that any difference exists between the two denominations is the passing mention that the PCA is largely comprised of those coming from the "conservative wing of the old Southern Presbyterian Church." While stating that the PCA is "conservative," while the PCUSA is "more diverse," it is quick to add that the PCA and the PCUSA "remain cordial."

There is absolutely no mention that the PCUSA is apostate, having a large section of the church pushing for the ordination of homosexual clergy and elders, worshipers of the goddess Sophia, a publicly pro-abortion stance, and a new catechism which attacks the central Christian teaching that salvation is possible through Jesus Christ alone.

The 63rd General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Orchard Park, NY, August 5-10, 1999, calls upon the Presbyterian Church in America to "have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but, rather reprove them" (Ephesians 5:1 1), and to "come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing" (2 Corinthians 6:17).
