THE DEFENDERS' BIBLE

The Christian world is indebted to Dr Henry Morris for his uncompromising stand regarding Creation. I have recently read the Defender's Study Bible by Dr Morris, which had some disturbing notes.

Under Revelation 6:2 he said, "Many futurist commentators interpret the rider on the white horse to be the Antichrist who they say is seeking to imitate Christ (Rev 19:11). This interpretation seems inappropriate. The proper interpretation is to view Christ as the rider. Remember that each judgment of the seven seals is sent forth by Christ.

Revelation 17:5, "Babylon is referred to several times in Revelation as an ancient city, and there is no reason to call it 'Rome' or 'Catholicism'."

John 3:5, "Water and the Spirit here has the connotation, 'water, even the Spirit' ... some expositors have taken it to mean the water in a mother's womb, but the context surely refers to Baptism ... Paul used the same baptismal figure of the new life in Romans 6:4.

Romans 6:4, "The immediate submission of the new believer to the ordinance of baptism ... does produce a change in his life."

In II Thessalonians 2:3, Dr. Morris believes the falling away to be the Rapture.

While many of the notes in Dr Morris' Bible, especially the ones regarding Creation, are helpful to the Christian, and while I have not read his entire Bible, I feel these notes are not only incorrect, they can convey an entirely false impression regarding Romanism and its sacraments .

It might be best for men whom God has blessed with a particular expertise to confine their teaching to that which the Holy Spirit has revealed to them about the subject.
