She was proclaimed patroness of aviators by Pope Benedict XV because her house (Loreto) was flown by angels to Italy so it wouldn't be desecrated by the Turks. In his encyclical "Octobri Mense", September 22, 1891, Pope Leo XIII said, "So just as no man can come to the highest Father except through the Son, so no man can approach Christ except through His mother."

 On March 22, 1918, Pope Benedict XV said, "She suffered so much for us, almost to the point of dying with her suffering and dying Son. Therefore we may rightfully say that she has, with Christ, redeemed the human race."

  St. Louis de Montford, TRUE DEVOTION TO MARY, commenting upon Gen 3:15, "God has never made and formed but one enmity; but it is an irreconcilable one. It is between Mary, His worthy Mother and the devil. He has inspired her with so much hatred against that cursed enemy of God, with so much power to crush that proud and impious rebel that he fears her, in a sense, more than God Himself."

"While Saint Dominic was preaching the Rosary in Carcassone, a heretic made fun of the miracles and the fifteen mysteries(Ed - now there are twenty) of the Holy Rosary, and this prevented other heretics from being converted. As a punishment God suffered fifteen thousand devils to enter the man's body."His parents took him to Father Dominic to be delivered from the evil spirits. He started to pray and begged everyone who was there to say the Rosary out loud with him, and at each Hail Mary Our Lady drove one hundred devils out of the heretic's body and they came out in the form of red hot coals.

 Pope Innocent III says in his sermon "2 De Festo Assum Colon," 1552: "Eve was produced without sin, but she brought forth in sin. Mary was produced in sin, but she brought forth without sin." Pope Gregory the Great in his Tom. 1, page 598, Ben. Ed., Paris 1705 says, "For he (Christ) alone was truly born holy."

St. Thomas Aquinas the greatest Doctor of the Roman Catholic Church, whose theology is used by students for the priesthood, wrote in the Tert. Part Sum. Sac. Theol., Lug. Edition 6.144, Quest 27th, Art 2,60: "So even if the parents of the Blessed Virgin were cleansed from original sin, nevertheless the Blessed Virgin contracted original sin."QUOTES FROM THE GLORIES OF MARY by "St." Alphonsus Liguori, Theological Doctor of the Roman Catholic Church (1931 edition: Redemptorist Fathers, Brooklyn, NY).

  (In order to be named a theological doctor of the Roman Catholic Church, all your writings must be examined, and none found to be contrary to the teaching of the Church.) page 260, "The whole Trinity, O Mary, gave thee a name. . .above every other name, that at Thy name, every knee should bow, of things in heaven, on earth, and under the earth." pages 82,83: "And she is truly a mediatress of peace between sinners and God. Sinners receive pardon by . . . Mary alone." page 94: "He fails and is lost who has not recourse to Mary."page 127: "Many things . . . are asked from God, and are not granted; they are asked from Mary, and are obtained." page 160: "Mary is called . . . the gate of heaven because no one can enter that blessed kingdom without passing through her." page 170: "He who is protected by Mary will be saved, he who is not will be lost."

page 193: "(Mary) is also the Advocate of the whole human race." page 197: Mary is the Peace-maker between sinners and God."

  Besides agreeing with all the major statements of earlier popes and councils, a Vatican II document came close to establishing her as Co-Redemptress. "Just as a woman had a share in bringing about death, so also a woman should contribute to life" (LUMEN GENTIUM, 11/21/64, Ch.VIII, Sec. II). This document also repeats the old saying, "Death through Eve, life through Mary." While the document deplores excesses and advises Roman Catholics to refrain "from all false exaggeration", it discreetly promotes Mary as "sign of true hope and comfort for the pilgrim people of God" and speaks of "the glory which she possesses in Heaven as theimage of the Church as it is to be perfected. " Mary is seen by some as an ecumenical figure, drawing love from the Protestants.

A shrine is erected to Mary by the Church of England in Walsingham, England, is used as an ecumenical bridge and strongly promotes pagan worship of the Queen of Heaven. We were told, at the Rosary for Peace Rally, Dayton, Ohio, 10/28/84 that Mary is venerated by 1600 different names in Roman Catholicism. On St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church, 524 W Mitchell St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin: "Ascend mortals to this mountain top for here through Mary all shall receive salvation."

"Our Blessed Mother's Rosary concludes with the Mystery of the Coronation of the Immaculate Virgin Mary as Queen of all creation; however, the crowning of Our Lady is not the culmination, but the actual commencement, of all that has even happened from the very beginning of time. ... Psalm 84 (85 KJV) presents graphically for us this incarnational union between God and man - heaven and earth, grace and nature - in the precious palace of the Virgin Mary's womb: Mercy and truth have met each other (heaven and earth); Justice and peace have kissed (grace and nature); Truth is sprung out of the earth (that's Mary!); And justice hath looked down from heaven (that's Jesus!); For the Lord (God the Father) will give goodness (God the Son) and the earth (the Blessed Virgin Mary) shall yield her fruit."

Ibid., page 4. God in His goodness will send His Son to become man; and our earth, the Blessed Virgin, will give us her fruit, Jesus Christ, Who was called the fruit of Mary's womb; thus was accomplished the prophecy of Isaiah 45:8, Let the earth be opened and bud forth a Savior.

But there is a sense in which you might almost dare to say that Mary came before Jesus, for no child comes before his mother." Ibid., page 5. These words are also found in the First Reading of the Mass of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in the Mass of the Most Holy Rosary.

 Pope Leo XIII, "God chose the august Virgin Mary from all eternity to be the Mother of the Incarnate Word, and for that reason has so eminently distinguished her among all of His most beautiful works in the triple order of nature, grace and glory, that the Church justly applies to her these words: I came out of the mouth of the Most High, the first-born before all creatures."Ibid, page 7. "We can hope to attain the divinity of God only in the same way He attained the humanity of man: through Mary. We must travel the identical route, and the name of that Royal Road is Mary. `For by Mary', St. Fulgentius tells us, `God descended from Heaven into the world, so that by her men might ascend from earth to Heaven.' We don't need Mary to be the sons of men, but we do need Mary to become the sons of God." Ibid., page 9. "all the faithful servants of God and children of Mary (owe) their ultimate salvation to the One Mediator and Savior, Jesus Christ - and to His Mother, without whom He would never have been incarnated and born into the world, and without Whom (caps in original), therefore, He could never have been the Savior of anybody." Ibid., page 12. "Mary is the channel through which all the graces of the Head must flow down to the Body. She is the neck which alone connects all the living members with the Head. Do you see now why all true Christians proclaim Our Lady `Mediatrix of All Graces?'"

 Ibid., page 14. "God Himself explained to (St. Gertrude) that Jesus was indeed Mary's first-born according to the flesh, but that all mankind was to be her second-born according to the spirit. St. Bonaventure said, "All the sons of the womb of the Church are the inheritance and fruit of the womb of Mary."

  Christians believe in the Virginal Conception of Christ because it is biblical; Catholics because it is the necessary first step toward Mariolatry. Mary is named 19 times in the Bible; Jesus, about 950 times. In the Rosary, the chief Roman Catholic devotion, 10 prayers are said to her for every prayer to God. The rise in devotion to her came when a backslidden church, having lost the reality of Christ, was presented with the pagan concept of a female deity and she was deemed able to mediate between them and a God Who was too far away.

 Roman Catholics use the story of the marriage of Cana (John2:1-9) to prove Mary's power of mediation over Christ. The story actually contradicts this, for Jesus could do no miracle until His mother, who had exercised maternal control over Him (Luke 2:51), stepped out of the way and called attention to His pre-eminence (John 2:5). Roman Catholics used to assert that Revelation 12:1 pictures Mary, but now most say it merely alludes to her. However, she is often see with a crown of twelve stars.

 In evangelism, we can say that we honor her more than our Roman Catholic friends do, for we obey the only command she gave. Also, the scripture speaks of all who are truly forgiven as being blessed (Romans 4:6-8).

From A CATHOLIC SURVIVAL GUIDE, NEW COVENANT, February 1991 "If the Eucharist were just a symbol, it wouldn't matter so much. But we Catholic Christians follow an almost 2,000-year-old tradition that the Eucharist is truly the body and blood of Christ. I would die for my belief in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the bread of life and the cup of salvation... Our devotion to Mary must be expressed in some practical way, the most common being the Rosary..."

  From THE MONITOR (Trenton, NJ). 5/16/91 "Fatima, Portugal. A papal visit to Portugal in early May turned into a four-day salute to Mary and showed the continuing strength of Marian devotion among Catholics.

  "Pope John Paul II thanked Mary for freeing Eastern Europeans from communist rule, protecting the Church against decades of Communist repression and saving his life 10 years ago in an assassination attempt. "Mary also was entrusted with the tasks of helping the rebirth of a Christian Europe and orienting contemporary generations lost to religion toward God."
