"Marian Movement" Not Supported by Church, Says Cardinal.

A group calling itself the "Marian Movement of Southern California" cannot be endorsed by the Catholic Church, Cardinal Roger Mahoney wrote in a letter to the priests of the archdiocese Swept. 20.

The cardinal cited "doctrinal, canonical and financial irregularities" in the Fresno-based group's messages and warned that people were in danger of being misled by them. At the center of the Marian Movement is a woman named Maria Paula, who claims to be having private apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the 13th of every month. Cardinal Mahoney encouraged people wishing to express devotion to the Blessed Mother to join a recognized Marian movement, like the Legion of Mary.
