KNOW First Annual Duck Slam!

Compiled from articles submitted by Tina Carter, KNOW Member

On the Way InKNOW will be holding it's first Duck Hunt on December 11th 1999.  The Hunt will take place in Land Between the Lakes.  The place we will be hunting is public so we will have to leave early in the morning more than likely around 3:00 a.m.  The spot we hunt is usually a hot spot so it is a first come first serve type spot.

We are going to have to limit the hunt to 10 people.  I hate to have to do that but this spot will not hold many more hunters than that.  I want to make sure that you get the best possible duck hunt I can give you.  I will need to know by November 1st whether you plan on attending.  This will let me know the exact number I will be working with to prepare for the hunt.

We will hike about 1/2 mile down an old flooded road bed to get to the blind site.  Once we arrive at the blind site we will construct our blinds and put the decoy spread out and wait for the ducks.   You will need a small folding chair or a five gallon bucket to sit on while in the blind.  You will need to spray paint the bucket if it is white, black will do just fine.

Bob Freezing, Still Having Fun You will need a backpack with the following items in it: an extra pair of gloves; a snack; a thermos of coffee; or a soft drink; a package of hand warmers could come in handy; 3 boxes of steel shotshells and anything else you may feel you need.  You will need to have a spare pair of clothes in the vehicle with you in case you fall into the water.  A spare hat might also be helpful.  Remember it will be very cold in December, layer your clothing but also remember we will be hiking into the blind site.  Chest Waders are recommended for this hunt but you might get by with hip waders.  I highly recommend a waterproof coat of some kind we are hunting around water so you can't help but get wet sometimes.

If you plan on attending make sure you have your state hunting licenses $12.50 state waterfowl permit $7.50, federal duck stamp $15.00 and a Land Between the Lakes permit $20.00.  These licenses and permits need to be bought before the December 11th Duck hunt.  Check out the Land Between the Lakes web-site for more information on the LBL user permit at http://www2.lbl.org./lbl/hunting.html

Sunrise Lodging in our area: Amerihost Inn 270-759-5910, Days Inn 270-753-6706, Shoney's Inn 270-753-5353.  These hotels are located in Murray Kentucky and it is in the Central time zone.  If you need any further information on lodging please let me know.
