Fund-raisers:

11/29/03: "An Evening for the Animals", Orange county Zoological Society, Tustin Ranch golf Club A wonderful evening of music, fun silent auctions, lovely gowns, and great food....all to benefit the animals!

11/2/03: Benefit Concert for Ashleigh and Allyson Roach Tom Giblins Pub in Carlsbad Benefit Concert for the Roach Family who lost their daughter Ashleigh in the fires. Allyson was critically burnt over 85% of her body. Their house was also burnt down.

9/30/01: Sept 11th Benefit Concert for the NY Fireman's Fund The Blarneystone Pub, Clairmont I led off the program playing harp and singing Irish music. There was music all day by various bands until the wee hours. Everyone present had a wonderful time at this totally volunteer effort. More than $12,000 was raised for the relief fund for the firemen's widows and children.

11/17/01: Home of the Guiding Hands Luncheon and Fashion Show At the San Diego Marriott Hotel (by Seaport Village). This was a benefit for the residents of the home. I provided the background music during lunch. This was my second year for this event.

3/07/02: Coronado Hospital Foundation / Coronado Landing Party Room Reception honoring patrons of the Hospital.

 

Public Performances:

11/18/03: "CD Launch Party", Mc P's Irish Pub, Coronado Wow! What a wonderful night! The long awaited launch of my first CD, "Ancient Echoes", surrounded by over 200 friends, family, and well wishers... my lovely daughter Elizabeth selling CDs and charming the hearts of everyone!...corned beef sandwiches, Guinness and Harp flowing, hugs, laughter... and musical friends Bill Lee, Nishi, and others joining me for great music, dancing with the Pride of Erin Ceili group, the wonderful fiddlers from COSA arts program who joined us for the sessiun, and Sara who I met at Bay Books with her whistle!! Thank you! Thanks to Greg Mc P for the perfect venue and all your support!! Thank You! Everyone!! For helping me celebrate a dream come true. Thank you for your friendship and support!! I love you all!!

12/13/03: Tent City Restaurant / CD Signing Party, 1100 Orange Avenue, Coronado. This is a CD signing party for those who like fine dining and reserved seating. Tent City is located in the Coronado Historical Society Building and features a Neuvo-California menu. I was there from 7PM to 10PM signing CDs, playing my harp and singing with Bill Lee on mandolin.

1/24/04: Performance and CD Signing, D.G. Wills Books, 7461 Girard Avenue, La Jolla. Ancient harp music and song among the most unique and amazing book store with its endless stacks of new and used books, ancient tomes, and rare finds… with Dennis Wills presiding in his usual charming fashion.

3/26/02: "Home to Ireland" at Coronado Public Library / Winn Room Kathleen and Friends: Rebecca Lindquist on Keyboard, David Lindquist on Accordion, Michael Eskin on Uillean Pipes and Penny Whistle and the wonderful "Pride of Erin Dancers" .The evening concluded with an impromptu Irish Music Session.

12/19/01: "Holiday Musical Concert", at the Coronado Public Library / Winn Room, Kathleen on harp, Bob Sandstrom on Fiddle, Bill Lee on Mandolin and Guitar, and Vanessa Gwynne on Flute. I played Christmas Music on Harp, and Jazzy versions of Christmas Carols on Piano. Our ensemble, led by Bob Sandstrom, played a selection of Hanukah tunes. Bill Lee led the audience in singing Christmas Carols accompanied by Guitar. The evening was concluded by a special ensemble arrangement of Oh Holy Night featuring Vanessa on the Flute. This received a standing ovation and a call for more from a packed house.

3/17/03: D.G. Wills Books "Annual Irish Poetry Reading", 7461Girard Ave, La Jolla This is my third year at this great event!! A great party with open mike readings of anything Irish. Great Irish food, drink and craic (Irish for FUN), and yours truly on the Harp. FREE and open to the public!!!

11/29/03: "Christmas Open House" at Scottish Treasures, Coronado Ferry Landing Annual festivities include Irish and Scottish dancers, the lively band "Geese in the Bog", Scott Williams on Hammered Dulcimer, and meself on the Harp. A chance to try haggis, pasties, and other Celtic delicacies and pick up a few items for under the tree.

5/3/03: "Mother's Day Tea", Linda's Ivy Nest, Old Town Temecula, provided beautiful harp music for the most exquisite formal tea. Customers of Linda's charming silk flower shop could sit with beautiful china tea settings enjoying finger sandwiches and miniature sweets. This is my second year playing for this wonderful event... and the second year I've found just what I need for mom in her shop!!

9/21 & 9/22/03: Renaissance Fair in Balboa Park Entertained on the Ash Grove Stage, with harp and song wearing my lovely 15th century Irish Dress. I was joined by Bill Lee on mandolin wearing his Scottish Kilt.

9/22/01: International Friendship Festival 2001 El Cajon Civic Center I was at the Irish Outreach booth playing and discussing the harp as part of a demonstration of Irish culture. We had great craic with Kathy O'Toole at the Wicklow Way booth next to us!!

8/16/01: Taste of Mainstreet, Encinitas I played at St. Germains Restaurant providing harp music and songs while hundreds of people visited 30 or more restaurants up and down Main street. It was great fun and a unique experience for an entertainer because your audience changed-over every 15 minutes or so.

3/12/03: "Home to Ireland" at the Coronado Public Library Once again joining talented and really funny actor Peter Connolly and my partner in crime, the brilliant and lovely Cork gal, Theresa Geldart. Providing great Irish songs and stories....great craic worth the visit!!

7/18/01: "An Irish Literary Evening" with Theresa Geldhart and Peter Connolly at the Coronado Public Library. Theresa and Peter provided brilliant acting while George Rubsamen and I provided the music. (George on fiddle, melodian, guitar, and songs... myself on harp and songs) We played music for about 20 minutes while people were arriving, and sets of music as the evening progressed. George joined me for Gentle Maiden...turned out great! A particularly special piece was a fairy tale that Theresa read while I provided musical sound effects on the harp. We had great fun and the audience loved it.

3/14/03: FOX Channel 6 Fox in the Morning Show My three minutes in the limelight !!

6/7/03, 1/7/04: Open House at PB Yoga & Healing Arts, Pacific Beach Played relaxing harp music while lucky guests enjoyed free massages and other healing modalities, and snacked on very yummy healthy foods and teas. Everyone felt the harp music was perfect.

3/10/02: Twigg's Coffee Shop / Park Boulevard and Madison Ave Kathleen and friends played from 4:00 'till 6:00 PM. Friends were Bill Lee on Mandolin, Gary Jones on Irish Flute and Penny Whistle and Maureen Ostrich on the Fiddle. Also adding to the fun were Regina on Flute and Guido on Fiddle.

9/28/03: Celtic Ensemble at Twigg's Coffee Shop, joined our dear friends for their regular Sunday Performance at Twiggs. Had a great time creating music on the fly.. some brilliant moments... and great craic!! Claudia, Carlos, Jose, Jack, and Tim... and their extended family of "regulars" are a treat any Sunday from 4-6PM... come on by!

3/22/02: Pannikins of Flower Hill Mall / Via de Valle exit off rt. 5 My third time at this venue...Ancient Irish harp music and singing, from 7:00 'till 9:00 PM

3/21/02: Winston School, Del Mar / Cultural Faire Irish music and dancers from 5:00 'till 7:00 PM for school festival.

6/1/01: Art Reception at the Artist Colony in Encinitas Two hours of background music for art show....a great venue for harp music!

 

Private Events:

12/7/03: American Ireland Fund Christmas Party, Point Loma. 6PM to 9PM. I was joined by Bill Lee on Mandolin who also lead the group in Christmas Carols...Jingle Bells in Irish!! What great sports! And what an amazing view across to the Christmas Ships, fireworks, and lights glittering on the bay! A brilliant evening altogether.

12/5/03: Illumina, Inc. Christmas Party, Del Mar Country Club. Playing beautiful music for a very enlightened crowd. 7PM - 9PM Cocktails and into dinner time.... followed by Extreme Fun DJ!

12/2/03: Coronado Optimist Club Christmas Party, Coronado Golf Club. Playing and singing for the cocktail hour, then enjoying all the fun with my fellow Optimists at dinner. Then afterwards, Bill and I lead this hapless group in the singing of Christmas Carols. Only my pledge of eternal Optimism prevents me from describing the cacophonous sound that followed!!! :-)

8/4/01: Tea Party on the Lawn at House of Ireland A wonderful fun sessiun with fellow musicians: Bill Lee on mandolin, Maureen Ostrich on fiddle, Gary Jones on penny whistle and Irish flute, and Regina on concert flute. We played our hearts out while my lovely daughter reigned as Queen of the House of Ireland over the proceedings. Great hats, beautiful flowers, and delicious treats!!

3/14/03: Harp music for La Jolla Wine and Food Society 1:00 - 4:30 P.M. Imperial House Restaurant, by the parade route. Join the La Jolla Wine and Food Society, enjoy amazing food and rare wines, entertainment by yours truly on harp and Bill Lee on mandolin.

4/24/03: Sunrise Assisted Living, Grand Opening Reception Played from 5:00-7:00 P.M. for fabulous reception for those wanting to see their beautiful new facility. 3302 Bonita Rd., Bonita. (Chocolate eclairs straight from heaven!!)

3/07/02: College Avenue Baptist Church / Fireside Room Played for a St. Patty's Luncheon with a real fun group of seniors!! This is my second year entertaining at College Avenue Baptist Church. The first year I walked into the room and everyone was completely decked out in green complete with those funny shamrock head pieces!! A great group and lots of fun!!

 

Memorials:

10/30/03: Memorial Service for Ashleigh Roach Westminster Church in Escondido Played whilst friends and family arrived for the private service at Ashleigh's church. So many people came that they used additional rooms for seating.

10/30/03: Public Memorial Service for Ashleigh Roach Center for the Performing Arts, Escondido Played whilst the community arrived for the service. More than 1200 people came to honor the life of a wonderful girl. Ashleigh was a joy to all who knew her. She was active in the House of Ireland and was their Queen for this year. She was a champion Irish dancer with Rose Dance Academy. Her family has been an inspiration to all who know them with their faith and love. Many fund-raisers are continuing. 5/11/03: Mother's Day Memorial Service for the most wonderful surfing-mother. All her children and the many she "adopted" over the years remembering her at a lovely park overlooking the ocean. With the glow of the afternoon sun over the waters, I played harp whilst about 50 surfers took to the waves in her honor.

 

Private Parties:

8/29/03: Family Concert, for the family of Ruth Briggs Ruth is my most amazing friend and patron. The harpers of old had families that hired them to play for events and looked after them and their professional careers. Ruth has done this and more! She invites me regularly to her beautiful Spanish Hacienda in Rancho Santa Fe to enjoy dinner and then entertain the guests after, she has invited me into the homes of her hospice patients to play for their families, she commissioned a special piece of art in the form of a necklace to honor my CD Launch Party. I am so blessed to have her as a friend!!

8/23/03: House Blessing and Reception, Coronado, I felt very honored to be able to be a part of this lovely event. A local Coronadian was marking a new phase in her life, and a new house, by inviting her church community to come and be a part of a house blessing and buffet reception. May all good things and blessings come her way!

7/27/03: Family Concert, at the home of Rita Kotkowski, Ohio This large, wonderful family are my mother's best friends. Rita, the grandmother and great-grandmother of this wild and jolly clan, has had a Lyon and Healy harp in her living room for 30 years but has never played it. She was wanting to at least hear what it sounded like. So as a token of the esteem that my mother holds for the Kotkowski's, I provided a family concert in her living room playing both her Lyon and Healy Troubadour and a Noteworthy 30. I liked the Noteworthy so much I ordered one made for occasions where a lap harp would be handy.

4/9/03: Private party .... outdoors on Sue's patio... she's one of the wonderful people I met through a student of mine, Vilma. There's a great story there. Vilma got four harp lessons as a Christmas gift from her friends because she said that she regretted never studying the harp in her youth. For her fourth lesson, I played for her and her friends at her house... I met all these wonderful people as a result... life is grand!!!

3/16/03: Playing for a 90th birthday party. Greatest party I've been to in a while! What a loving family and what an incredible man being honored...Dr. Larry Crow...I went there not knowing the man and left honored to have been a part of a tribute to a life well lived!!!

3/17/03: Playing a serenade for a St. Patty's Day Party. This is a great new idea... I play 3 or 4 songs for the guest of honor... special affordable price!

3/17/03: Playing another serenade for my dear friends, Danny and Mary Armstrong. Party at the VFW Hall in Lemon Grove. I always play "Danny Boy" for Danny Armstrong. They wrote it for him, you know!!

11/4/01: 90th Birthday Party for Irish grandmother in Point Loma. I played harp and sang Irish songs for 1 1/2 hours. The performance included ancient songs in Irish, and a fun sing-along of Irish parlor songs. I was joined by Bill Lee who accompanied the sing-along with his guitar.

8/25/01: Fun sessiun with meself and Bill Lee, Kit and Siobhan Healy, and Seamus and Lisa Taylor in Alpine. The occasion was a birthday party for their daughter Leah.

5/27/01: Barbecue in North County Joined several musicians in providing entertainment for a fun barbecue with friends.

5/25/01: Surprise Party at Blarneystone Pub in Clairmont Played for our good friends Danny and Mary Armstrong at the Blarneystone for Danny's birthday. Happy Birthday Danny!!!

 

Weddings & Anniversaries:

1/25/04: 25th Weddding Anniversary * Vows Renewal Ceremony, San Marcos Country Club. Providing the lovely strains of the Celtic harp and song as the Sawyers renewed their vows. Provided music as guests arrived, the processional and recessional, and while the guests gathered around the loving couple to offer congratulations!

12/14/03: A Renaissance Wedding, by Martina Livingston of "Faire Ladies, Faire Lords - Renaissance Faire Just For You" What an experience just being a part of the pageantry! The festivities began with a traditional ancient wedding complete with medieval costumes. Bill and I played "Gentle Maiden" for the bride's processional, and then I played and sang in Irish for the recessional. Martina provided a 4 hour feast with acting troops, yours truly on harp and Bill on mandolin, pages serving course after sumptuous course complete with heralds playing trumpets to announce each course.

10/25/03: "Mad Hatter Tea Party" Celebrating 25 "Mad" Years Together! House of Ireland in Balboa Park, What a fun and wild celebration of a wonderful marriage. Our dear friends Seamus and Peg celebrated with costumes, a "mad hatter cake", wonderful finger sandwiches, croquet on the lawn, and yours truly playing harp music from the hearth of the old Irish cottage. Maith thu!!

3/17/02: Wedding of Mary Nielan and Christopher Bubela / Singing Hills Golf Course Played while guests arrived, accompanied soloist during wedding, played while guests moved to the reception.

10/20/01: Wedding reception at the Mason's Lodge in La Mesa, California. Harp music for three hour reception

5/20/01: Wedding at lovely estate in AppleValley Joined by Rebecca Lindquist on keyboard. We played for half and hour prior to the wedding. Rebecca accompanied me while I sang Ave Maria and several other special requests. We did a duet on keyboard and harp for the wedding march and trumpet voluntary...then played while the guests retired to poolside for fabulous food and a disk jockey.

 

Most Unique Events:

11/15/01: Dinner Party in Coronado for 6 lucky friends of a Navy person about to ship overseas. I played for 2 hours while the friends enjoyed a lovely evening and a scrumptious meal.

11/16/01: American Legion La Mesa Quick 15 minute harp set in the break time for a country western band....turned into a much longer set as the audience wanted me to play some more. The band loved the extra time to eat Mary Armstrong's brilliant meal ! Then back to the boot scoot boogie!!

7/8/01: Carmalite Monastery Novena Week Joined my great friend Regina (who provided the offertory music) after mass in the beautiful monastery gardens for a duet of harp and flute. What a brilliant setting.

 

Competitions:

10/10/03: Pride of Erin Harvest Time Feis (Musicians / Singers) This is the fourth year of the musical competition. I received the Gold Medal again for Adult Voice. I sang two songs in Irish and accompanied myself on the harp. I received the Silver Medal this year in Adult Instruments. Mike Eskin played that brilliant air on his whistle again and everyone agreed he is unbeatable. Such talent!

10/11/02: Pride of Erin Harvest Time Feis (Musicians / Singers) This is the third year that the Pride of Erin has added a musical component to their yearly Feis. It was held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Mission Valley. I received the Gold Medal for Adult Voice, and the 3rd Place Medal for Adult Instruments. Mike Eskin took Gold in Adult Instruments with a penny whistle air that made us cry with it's beauty!!

9/23/01: Renaissance Fair in Balboa Park I was part of the harp competition on Sunday. There were several harpists there including Sue Raimond, an accomplished harpist, who was also performing throughout the day. I was presented with a medal for first place in the Intermediate Harp Division.
