Oct. 29: Although it generally arrived 1-2 weeks later than the 30-year average, most (but not quite all) of the 30-county area still waiting for the first true hard freeze (28°-or-colder) of the season finally had one on this Wednesday morning. Some official NWS weather stations that recorded their first hard freeze included: Grand Island airport, Kearney airport, Hastings NWS office, Osceola, York, Hebron and Alton KS. Places such as Smith Center KS did not have a hard freeze, but still dropped below 32° for the first time this fall.
