Cabaret diva Andrea Marcovicci and veteran Broadway performer Michael DeVries team in the 42nd Street Moon revival of the past-lives musical "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever."
The show, from 1965, was written by Burton Lane and Alan Jay Lerner (the Lerner & Loewe Lerner), and tells the story of Daisy Gamble, a New York woman who is completely unaware of her ESP gifts, and the psychiatrist who helps her discover her past lives, including a stint as an 18th-century noblewomen.
On Broadway, the starring roles were played by Barbara Harris and John Cullum, and when it became a movie, Barbra Streisand and Yves Montand starred with Bob Newhart and Jack Nicholson.
In the San Francisco revival, Marcovicci will play the young woman. The singer has established an enormous reputation for her concert and cabaret work, but is also known to Bay Area audiences for her performances with ACT in "St. Joan," "Burn This" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
DeVries has appeared in Broadway productions of "Hello, Dolly!" "Grand Hotel," "The Secret Garden," "Cats" and "King David." Locally, he has appeared at Woodminster Amphitheater as Sky Masterson in "Guys and Dolls," and in the company's production of "South Pacific" 17 years ago, where he earned his Equity card.
The show, featuring such tunes at "Hurry! It's Lovely Up Here" and "What Did I Have That I Don't Have?" is directed by Wayne Bryan.
