Spiny Turtle - Heosemys spinosa

If you get the chance to see a juvenile specimen of this species, they are very distinct. The carapace has many spines coming off the marginals on both sides. As these turtles age, however, these spines wear down, which is the case in the specimen pictured. They can reach a length of up to 22 cm and are found in Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. This specimen died in captivity.
