Red-eared Slider - Trachemys scripta elegans

This is one of fourteen subspecies of the Slider, Trachemys scripta. This turtle is found in most of the southeastern portions of the United States and into Mexico and South America. This subspecies occurs in the Mississippi Valley from Illinois to the Gulf of Mexico. The slider ranges in size from 20 - 60 cm. This specimen died naturally in the wild.
