This large, semiaqautic turtle is native to Burma, Thiland, Kampuchea, and northern Malaysia. This turtle inhabits freshwater rivers, lakes and marshes, but spends much of its time on land. This is one of a few species of turtles that are placed in the waterways of Tortoise Temple in Bangkok. The local Buddhists believe that saving these turtles gains them favor in the afterlife. This specimen died in captivity.
