Beavers are one of the funest animals to trap and one of the hardest, because getting to them can be a real chore. You have to double stake them almost all the time and use the biggest and most expensive traps on the market.

Now on to the important stuff. Trapping beaver requires quite a bit of skill and knowledge of the animals behavior. They are very territorial creatures and if they smell another male in their territory they will fight constantly until the other leaves. They leave castor mounds to mark their territories, this is one of the key sets for them. To the left is a pic of this set. Go to their castor mound and demolish it, now make one your self by slopping some mud in a pile and adding castor/castor lure to it. Now place a trap in front of it with guidesticks causing the animal to go over the trap. With beaver always use drowning rigs, because they are very intelligent and if not killed within a

few minutes of being caught they can usually get out of the trap one way or another.

This next set is a neat idea and works well. Place some bait such as fresh cut sticks in a small pile on the bank fairly close to their den but make sure they have to swim over to it. Now right infront of it put a semi circle of sticks pushed into the ground and angled so that they will touch the surface. This causes the beaver to swim up, have sticks poke him in the chest, so he steps down into the trap you have right past the poking sticks. He now is caught by the front foot, this set doubled with the drowning rig, is a surefire set.

Good Luck and Tight Chains.
