Bank Shots

The definition of a bank shot is, "a shot which hits off the side of the pool table."  We can find how we need to shoot a pool ball to get the desired bank shot.

Please note that all you must account for the fact that the center of the pool ball will not hit the side of the pool table; this would mean that the ball would go into the wall. We must compensate by subtracting r from the answer to come up with a more accurate answer. Please note, these drawings have not taken this into account

Lets say that the cue ball is positioned in the lower left corner of the diagram, and that the seven ball is in the lower right corner. The big black bar is the side of the pool table.

We can set up lines that are perpendicular from the center of the balls to the side of the pool table to help us with the equations.

We can draw a line to help show us the path the cue ball could take, adding a line to show the path of the cue ball to the seven ball.
