*7000 B.C. - People have inhabited the area that is now Kingston for thousands of years. The region was home to native groups as early as 7000 B.C.

*1673 - Count Frontenac lands at Navy Bay.

*1783 - The City of Kingston was settled at the waterfront by Loyalists.

*1796 - On April 16, at the age of about 60, Molly Brant, a true Canadian Heroine, died. She was laid to rest in the burial ground of St. George's Church, located at what was to become the corner of Queen Street and Montreal Street, where St. Paul's Church now stands.

*1836 - John Counter founded the Kingston Marine Railway Company and created what was known as "railway cottages" for the use of his employees. The cottages were built two stories high and in rows. This lot is currently known as Block D

*1838 - The R. Munroe Stage Line provided passenger and mail stages 6 times a week between Kingston and Toronto for 2 pounds per passenger.

*1841 - February 15th, The Union of Canada was officially proclaimed and Kingston was named as the capital by Lord Sydenham. The Kingston General Hospital administrative building(as known today) was the parliament

*1841 - John Counter became the first mayor of the newly incorporated city.

*1843 - John A. Macdonald's law office had become one of the busiest in Canada. The following year, he was appointed as a City Councilor. In 1844 Macdonald decided to run for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Canada, which then consisted of Canada West (formerly Upper Canada) and Canada East (formerly Lower Canada, now Quebec). Macdonald won by a large majority and was elected as the Conservative (Tory) representative for Kingston.

*1844 - Kingston City Hall was completed.

*1846 - The City of Kingston is incorporated.

*1854 - July 26 & 27th citizens of Kingston were going to the polls and had a choice between the Honorable John A. Macdonald who established the Grand Trunk Railway two miles from the city. John Counter stated that if elected he would establish a new station in town.

*1856 - October 27, 1856 Was the year that the railroad first appeared in Kingston. On this date the Grand Trunk Railway was opened from Montreal to Toronto

*1856 - The Montreal St. train station (known as the "outer station") was completed.

*1867 - On July 1st the British parliament passed the British North American Act. This Act established the Dominion of Canada and gave the Canadian government the right to pass laws. Sir John A. Macdonald was appointed Prime Minister of Canada and won the federal election in August.

*1891 - Sir John A. Macdonald died
