Notes:  The Penguins take control of this game at the outset, as Stevens, Francis and Lemieux each find the back of the net early in the first period.  The North Stars fight back and score a goal, but the first period ends with Pittsburgh playing a stronger game.

The second period is a more physical battle with the North Stars getting away with several shady tactics.  But Trottier scores what turns out to be the game-winning goal as he’s falling through the crease.  Minnesota scores on the power play that ensues after Lemieux and Barasso get called for two-minute minors.  The Pens go into defensive mode and end up getting penalized several times, allowing Modano to score a third Minnesota goal.  Minnesota clearly has the upper hand as the second period ends, keeping the Penguins on the defensive, winning face-offs, and putting shots on goal.

Minnesota gets several great chances to score early in the third period but can’t find the net.  The Penguins get called for a five-minute major but manage to kill it off, then score the empty net goal when the North Stars pull Casey for the extra attacker in the last minute of play.  The series heads back to Pittsburgh tied at 2 games apiece.

Thanks Jim!
