Notes: Zalapski scores midway through the first period on a 2-man advantage, but moments later Don Maloney evens the score on a breakaway chance, putting in his own rebound. Seconds into the second period Paul MacDermid puts the Whalers up 2-1 on what appears to be an offside play. Dave Hannan ties it with less than 1 minute remaining in the period. Less than 5 minutes into the third period Mario puts the Pens up 3-2 on a power play after Hartford was penalized for tripping him, but Ron Francis ties the game once again moments later when he gets the rebound off of Tom Barasso’s glove side. Rob Brown scores the game winner with a backhand shot less than two minutes into overtime.
