Notes:  Pitchers Dennis Leonard and Rudy May start things off for their respective teams as the Yankees try to even the series at one apiece.  The Royals make it tough, scoring three runs in the third.  The Yankees threaten in the 5th when Nettles hits an inside the park home run, but Leonard hangs on and kills their rally.  A great play in the eighth inning prevents NY from tying it up, as Wilson takes a rebound low off the wall and fires it off to Brett.  Brett rockets it in to the waiting Porter, who tags a sliding Willie Randolph at home plate.  Jim Frey pulls Leonard in the 9th after he gives up a base hit to Reggie Jackson, but not before he adds eight strikeouts to his credit.  Dan Quisenberry comes in for the save, and the Royals head to the Big Apple to finish the series.  Paid attendance for this game was 42,633, a new franchise record.  Helen O’Connell sings the National Anthem.

Thanks Jeff!
