Notes: Miami forces Chicago
to punt on their opening drive, then Marino marches the Dolphins downfield and
into the end zone. On the next drive,
the refs strangely give Steve Fuller, playing for the injured McMahon, all the
time he needs for the crowd to quiet down so his offensive line can hear the
snap count. Chicago ties the score as a result, but the
Dolphins take the lead back and never surrender it. Miami’s Killer
B’s prove to be a worthy rival to the Chicago
defense, hounding Fuller, Payton, and the receivers all evening. Chicago
ends up surrendering more points in the first half than they had in the first
half of the previous 201 games. When the
crowd again gets into the game in the third quarter and the refs allow Fuller
all the time he needs, the announcers even get into the issue, saying “there’s
a point where this noise just gets ridiculous.”
The Dolphins ruin the Bears’ perfect season anyway. Walter Payton sets a new record with his 8th
consecutive 100-yard rushing game.
Thanks Mike!
