Payton, the NFL’s rushing leader, scored on six- and one-yard runs as he moved into fourth place on Chicago’s all-time rushing list with 2,927 yards. Bob Thomas kicked a 47-yard field goal just two seconds before halftime to give the Bears a 16-0 lead. The Bears’ defense enjoyed one of their best games as they sacked the Packers’ quarterbacks four times. Thomas added a 20-yard field goal with less than five minutes remaining to round out the scoring.
