Butt-kickin' Biodiversity

Biodiversity

What is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity is the number and variety of organisms in a given area during a specific period of time.

Well, that's great. Now, maybe in English?

Basically, take any period of time, now, for instance, and then you take any given place, say Kansas City, Kansas, and the Biodiversity would be what kind of organisms and how many were living there.

Threats To Biodiversity

The world is full of harmful things that can potentially harm our way of life. Some things have already effected us. The biodiversity of this planet is in constant danger from itself, because we, as humans, are part of Earth's biodiversity. Yet, we keep destroying it. Here are just a few present threats:

  • Pollution
  • Over-exploitation
  • Habitat Loss
  • Climate Change
  • Artificial Migration/Invasive Species

As you can see, This world certainly isn't cleaning itself up, not with us here, just dragging it back down. As the "top" of the food chain, I think that we have an obligation to keep our planet beautiful and, if not beautiful, at least inhabitable. The condition that the Earth is presently in is a state in which no time in history can match. We have new technologies, medicines, etc, yet, we can't seem to save the place we're living in. We've sent men to the moon, and we've taken pictures of Mars, but it looks to me like what we should really be doing is looking around us, rather than focusing on what is out there, we must first realise what is right here.
