~~~~Kingdom Archaebacteria~~~~
The 3 main Phyla
There are 3 Phylum's in the Archaebacteria Kingdom. There is the Methanogens, Halophiles, and the Thermoacidophiles. The Methanogens produce methane and can typically be found in the small intestines of animals. The animal and the bacteria help each other out. The bacteria breaks down the food as well as provides the animal with important nutrients. The bacteria gets a source of energy from the animal in return. The Halophiles are bacteria that can only be found in bodies of water that are highly concentrated with salt. In fact they live in areas where the salt concentration exceeds 15%. Instead of using chlorophyll to photosynthesize they use a pigment called bacteriorhodopsin. This makes the cells appear to be purple because it uses all the light except for purple. Lastly the Thermoacidophiles live in hot acid waters such as the hot sulfur springs. These organisms can live in temperatures around 90 degrees celcius. Amazingly they can live in many places such as near volcanic vents, or in cracks in the ocean floor. They basically live in conditions where no other organism could survive.
Pyrococcus furiosus
This organism is one of the most unique organism out there. It thrives in boiling water, in temperatures that are way to hot for animals and plants to live in, because it is a bacteria that thrives in boiling water it is called a hyperthermophiles. These bacteria are very interesting and different from all the other organisms. They do not breathe oxygen, in fact oxygen kills them. Instead of breathing oxygen they breathe sulphur and exhale sulfide. They can be found in water bubbling from undersea hot vents.
