Description of the Animalia Kingdom

The organisms that fall under this catagory are eukaryotic. They are also multicellular and heterotrophic which means that they have more than one cell and they do not make thier own food. One thing that is unique about these organisms is that most of them have a symetrical body arangement. They also are capable of complex and rapid movement compared to the other organisms. Most of these organisms produce sexually. They also rely either directly or indirectly on other organisms. These organisms do not have a cell wall like plants but they do have a nucleus and membrane closed organelles.

3 Phyla's of the Animalia Kingdom

One of the phyla's of the Animalia Kingdom is the Arthropoda. The Arthropoda phyla usually consists of insects, crustaceans, spiders, scorpions, and centipedes. These organisms have been responsible for some of the most devestating plagues, and famines we have ever known, yet some species are essential for our existence. They aid in medicines and other things that help us to survive. Most of them lay eggs, and have an exoskeleton. Their respiration takes place through the body surface for example gills.Another Phyla of the Animalia Kingdom is phyla Chordata. These are organisms that contain a notochord, at least during some part of their development. A notochord is a rod that extends through most of the length of their body. This supports them as they are moving around. These organisms also have many other characteristics that they share. Their bodies are symetrical, they have a complete digestive system, and they have a segmented body. Another phyla of the Animalia Kingdom is the Mollusca phyla. An important characteristic of the Mollusca is their head region. They have a well-developed head, with a mouth and nervous and sensory functions. The mantle is also another important characteristic of the Mollusca. The mantle is a sheath of tissue that surrounds the mantle cavity which has the gills or lungs in in. Some of the Mollusca's have very complex, and extremely sensititive eyes.

The Scarab Beetle

The Scarab Beetle is just one of the many organisms that fall in the Animalia Kingdom. These animals are very different, but rather intersting at the same time. These special kind of beetles can be found mainly in Africa. The other animals that live near it them aftering eating of course produce dung. Well guess what these special kind of beetles actually eat it! Obviously they know where to find thier food because they are attracted to it by its smell. When they finally reach it they eiter eat it or start moving it. They use their back feet to push the dung while they are standing on their front legs. Sometimes the ball of dung is bigger than the beetle. Something interesting that i found out about the beetle was that if they don't eat the dung they bury it so that it stays moist. However before they fully bury it a female beetle lays an egg in there. Once the larva is hatched it then begins eating its way out of the ball. I know this all may sound a little weird but actually what these beetles are doing really helps us out a lot. If these beetles did not exist then the dung would harden and begin covering the ground which in return would not allow plants and grass to grow. So these beetles are helping to fertilize the land. The Ancient Egyptians believed that these special beetles were sacred. In fact they believed that the beetles rolled the sun across the sky the same way they do with the ball of dung. To them the beetles were also a symbol of rebirth, as well as good luck charms.
