Basic Visitor Services Training (BVST) is the training program for producing California's Department of Parks and Recreations Park Rangers and Lifeguards. The BVST program consists of both law enforcement training "approved through POST - Peace Officer Standards and Training" and interpretive skill training.

BVST 21 consists of a group of fourteen men and women from around the state that have passed the rigorous entrance requirements. These requirements consist of a written exam, oral interview, physical agility test, medical exam, drug test, psychological evaluation and extensive background investigation. Once these hurdles are passed, these men and women are invited to attend the BVST program as Park Ranger cadets.

The BVST 21 academy is conducted at the William Penn Mott Training Center. The Mott Training Center is located in Pacific Grove, California at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. The cadets will live six months at the training center while they complete the training program.

At the end of the six month training program, the cadets will be California State Park Peace Officers. The graduation ceremony will be held on May 3, 2002 at 9:00am in the Fred Farr Forum.
