This web site is dedicated to all the newcomers to Sterling, Colorado. As we all know, it takes a special kind of person to settle in the prairie. It also is a lucky person who ends up here.
We are welcoming more and more newcomers these days. Our new prison has brought a number of people involved in the construction of the facility and all other facilities and infrastructure that supports those folks that come to work or just live nearby those who are employed here.
As a prison town now, we hardly notice that this new neighbor is there. They keep quiet, and they are very controlled and security conscious. We have heard some things, of course, such as there are 300 plus more jobs which the Department of Corrections would like to fill from people living around the area. We also need quite a number of houses built, and there seems to be a shortage of skilled tradesmen.
What I'd like to say to newcomers mostly, is when we arrived here two years ago, I was also struck by how friendly people are. How surprised we were when everyone was waving at us. We also were very happy with the number of people who would say hello or good morning. People in the market talk to each other all the time. So enjoy your visit to this site and to this town. You're going to be lucky if you end up here. There are so many good things about Sterling, Colorado.
