History
The King's School West Rand was founded in 1986 in an old historical building in Krugersdorp. The school was started with the intention of providing an education based onChristian values and standards. Very soon the school outgrew its early premises and moved to a farm in a suburb of Krugersdorp. In 1989 the school moved to its current premises in Helderkruin, Roodeport. The school is a registered section 21 company and is controlled by a board of directors.
Vision
The school's vision is to be established as one of the top schools in the country with a firm reputation for providing an excellent all round education, within a Christian framework.
Mission
The school is founded on Christian values and principals. It will provide academic excellence, within a caring and nurturing environment. The staff will develop personal relationships with the pupils that will foster an empathetic, individualised education. The school believes that it acts in "Locus Parentis" to provide education for the "whole" pupil, academically, pyhsycally and spiritually.
Freedom
The King's School West Rand follows the Independent Examining Board curriculm. This curriculum is enriched in the lower grages by the ACE system. The school, independently of the Gauteng Department of Education, selects its own staff. This staff selection is done according to the values and ethos of the school. The school has flexibility to enrich our core syllabus which enables us to develop cognitive and lateral thinking amongst our pupils.
Core values & ethos
The King's School West Rand was founded on basic biblical values which ensure a caring and nuring educational enviroment. Discipline is mantained in the school through positive reinforcement and by encouraging all pupils to take responsibility for their own actions. Since our inception, we have always held to the view that "all people are equal" irrespective of race. Mutual acceptance is a core value is taught and acted out in the school.
Caring & nurturing
As previously mentioned all our staff subscribe to the value system of the school. This creates a caring where the overall growth of our pupils is nurtured. The school believes that it partners the parents in developing the child physically, spiritually and mentally. The ethos of the school is such that the pupils of the school are encouraged to care for and help one another grow and develop. This engenders a strong cohesiveness within the pupil body whichis further enhanced by restricting the size or classes to 15-20 pupils.
Responsibility & service
The very nature of the school dictates that responsibility and service is encouraged amongst our pupil body. From Grade 1 pupils are taught to set daily goals and then to complete goals. Each child is encouraged to find their own level of performance and to work hard to maximise their potential. The philosophy is foundational in the child's development and helps the child in his further studies. The school also participates in various community support projecs and encourages its pupils to become involved in projects outside the school throu churches etc.
Acadmics
The King's School West Rand is comprised of three co-educational schools in one.
The Grade 0 department provides an exiting learn through play experience for th pre-school child. Emphasis is on social adaption, intellectual stimulation, emotional growth and the development of self reliance.
The primary school, Grade 1 - Grade 6, syllabus covers a broad spectrum of subjects. Opportunities are provided to explore and experiment within and without the school environment. As a result, Pupils face the secondary school phase of their education with assurance and confidence and are able to make subject choices that best suit their interest and abilities.
Our secondary school, Grade 7 - Grade 12, facilities a broad based education process culminating in the writing of the IEB matric. Throughout the school, cognitive and lateral thinking skills are encouraged and the small classes allow for individual tuition.
The school strives for academic excelence across all three departments. Top, well qualified staff are employed to ensure that we reach this end. Each child is helped to find their level of performance and then encouraged to maximise their potential. The pupil to teacher ratio ensures individual attention that allows staff to carefully monitor each pupils progress and structure tuition plans accordingly. To date the school has never had failure in matric.
